Anyone have any restrictions on first fill?

Recommended Posts

Probably not, I felt my first 1cc fill for a little while but the swelling went down after a day or two. Common wisdom is 3-5 fill befrore restriction has been achived and of course it depends on how aggressive you Dr. is on the fills. I am 2.5 cc in a 10cc band, and I think I am starting to just outside the green zone, but who can tell.

There really isnt one answer to your question. Some people never need a fill. Some need one, some a few and some a lot. Everyone is different. Make sure you are eating the correct foods (high Protein solids) and measuring and tracking your foods. Give your body time enough to register that you have fed it. Usually takes about 20-30 minutes. If you need more fills make sure you get what you need. Best of Luck to you!

Hely88 nailed it.

Everyone is different so everyone needs different levels of Fluid to have adequate Fluid in their band. Some never need a fill at all, some need a lot of them, it's all dependent on your anatomy.

As for myself, I was lucky to the difference even when my band was empty. I still needed some fills but I was definitely aware the band was there from the beginning.

I think I'm just beating myself up to much, I had band with plication in June 2012, I've lost 70 lbs without any fills, I lost most of that within the first 4-5 months, now I'm not losing like I was but I was getting to where I could eat just about anything I wanted just not a lot of it, I never gained any, just slowed down on the weight loss, mainly I think if I could get more exercise in I wouldn't need any fills, so I think I'm gonna try more exercise to see if that will help me instead of getting another fill.

Beth, losing 70lbs is awesome, weight lose will stall off and on. You are correct more exercise will help but you also have to be eating enough calories to lose, eating to little will also stall your weight loss. How many calories are you eating a day, how often are you exercising, and are you losing inches. I do fully understand how anxious you are about wanting to get rid of the weight we all were but it takes time, you are doing fantastic just start moving more and I know you will lose more weight.

I've only had one fill and I passed on my second last week because I don't feel like I need it....so yes, I have some degree of restriction with just one fill... I have very little hunger between meals, I log everything I eat, I stick to my portions and I exercise. Everyone is different and Beth you have done awesome losing 70 lbs! :)

Great job with your success so far. I just had my first fill of 3.5cc and I am starving ( I am still on liquids though). I am hoping when I go to mushies the hunger will subside. Good luck to you. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
