Anyone banded over te last couple days?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded on Thursday 2/21. I'm a 32 year old mom and have 2 preschoolers and a wonderful, supportive husband. I was just looking for a band buddy who was banded around the same time so we could share experiences.

I haven't weighed myself since surgery an will probably wait til Monday morning but I'm so anxious to see the number on the scale! Oh - one last this- I'm hoping to lose 90lbs. (I already lost 20 thought the preop diets)

Can I join your buddy group? Was banded in 2/18, I'm 31, and have a very supportive husband and 6 year old sweet boy. Would love to have some/ give some support to fellow banders. On day 6, was recovering nicely, but now have some type of pain to the left of the incision. ..hurts when I take deep breaths, yawns, etc. Any advice what that could be. It's constant. Hoping I didn't over do it yesterday with my super mom attitude.

This will be great to help me stay on task! I think I need to log on on my computer to accept your friends request. I usually am on my iPhone. I will be on the computer in a little but and figure it out. Just wondering when you all are planning going back to work(of you are)? I am supposed to back Monday, but if I'm not up to it, I'll just have to call out sick. I'm a teacher so I'm really trying to take off as little as possible.

Anyway, excited to have you as a Lab-band sista! I'm Emily be the way and use Facebook the most. Find me under Emily Wood in Chesnee, SC.

My Dr suggested I take two weeks off, but I am a nurse and have to restrain patients on a regular basis so that won't be good for my incisions! My name is Kelly and I will look you up on Facebook :)

NurseKelly I'm a nursing assistant. I too took two weeks off, I'm hoping that's enough time although if these stri-strips ( not sure if I spelled that right) don't full off before then I'm not going back. I work 11-7a on Peds and I'm the only nursing assistant, don't think it will work for me

Hey, I'd love to join in too. I was banded on 2-18. Have lots of support at home from my husband and daughter, and when the older children come home they are great too. But none of them have a clue about lapbanding, and so it is nice to discuss the things that come up with those of you who do.

I have one more day of the clear liquid diet before my doctor allows full liquids. I am so anxious to have a bit of yogurt or pudding along with milk products. One more day!

Hey, since we are all new. What does your belly look like? I have 6 little incisions. 2 of them are about 2" 3 are just like one cm, and the last one is about an inch. Then I am so totally bruised all around the larger 2 incisions.

I'd love to hear about everyone else's artwork on their tummies.

Hi Cindy, I also would love to be band buddies witha all. I had my surgery on 2/21 and I too have had the pain shift around, and the most is at my port sight, which everyone says is normal. I now have a bit of bruising but its not spreading, so I believe that is good. I keep ice packs going most of the day, I have 5 incisions, 4 are smaller but i do have one thats much bigger than the others and asode from the port area, that big one can get painful too.

I can finally get out of bed on my own, with out Hubbies help ! So day by day it goes =)

I was able to get out of bed on my own today too Booyah! It was great to be independent again, but I don't know if I pushed myself too hard today, or if the gas is shifting because I am in a lot of pain right now, more than I have experienced since the surgery. I did have a hernia repair, and its my diaphragm that seems to hurt right now, so maybe that's it?

I only have three incisions in a half moon shape at the top of my stomach, the incisions don't really hurt at all, just the inside that does. They haven't started bruising yet....so I don't' know if they will.

I am already getting tired of clear fluids, but am not allowed to start on full fluids until Wednesday :( Gonna need a lot of support to make it till then! I am glad to hear everyone is fairing well, and am excited to have buddies from this point forward!

Dave here and had surgery on the 19th. Feeling better except for the horrible neck and shoulder pain on one side. Feels like a pinched nerve. Was told it was gas? It's the only thing holding me back. Dlpleasants@fcps.edu

@Dave, heating pad, upper-body stretching, gax-ex, and if you have someone to rub your shoulders and upper back, that helps the most, especially a little elbow action. ;-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
