I am not there yet, not having had the op, but if they have put in a band and made your stomach smaller then shouldn't you start losing weight right away?

The band does not really make your stomach smaller that is a myth. This site

http://www.lapband.com/en/learn_about_lapband/device_how_it_works/?scprop40=Jeff

will explain exactly how the band works. In the first 6 weeks before your first adjustment some do lose weight but most don't. Most physicians do not put any Fluid in the band during surgery but some do. Some people are so sensative to the band that they never need a fill, just the band being in place gives them enough control that they are able to control the urge to over eat, which is what the band is suppose to do.

I have been fortunate in my WL journey and reached goal within 2 years, everyone is very individual in how the lose.

Good luck with your choice and keep reading there are a lot of successful people on this site who can help you.

love and tmf is right, the stomach doesnt change size with the band

and no matter how small one's stomach is (ie: plication, sleeve, bypass)

if one continues to eat high fat, processed..foods, high cal drinks and shakes and cheap slide soft foods, you wont lose weight..

You received great advice here.

It's also important to note the only that results in weight loss is burning more calories than you consume. The band itself doesn't make you lose weight. It dims the hunger and helps you to be satisfied on a lot less food.

Best wishes on your journey.

This is a common misconception of banding. The band doesn't stop you from eating and if a person depends on it to stop them, they're going to suffer from it. The band's purpose is to keep you from feeling hungry for 4-5 hours after eating a 1/2-1 cup meal made up of lean, dense Protein and healthy carbs. The food, when eaten slowly and chewed well (15-25 times per bite) passes through the small opening in the band to the lower part of the stomach, where it is digested. Things like ice cream, chips, Cookies, candies break down quickly to pass thru the band and are called slider foods...they also cause spikes in blood glucose, leading to the production of insulin and storage as fat...these foods won't keep you feeling satisfied, and should be avoided while you're losing.
