Does a fill under floroscope get you closer to the green zone? Anyone have any ideas about this?

This is how I just had my first fill, which was a floro fill. I went into a room that had an xray. I laid on the table and while they put Fluid in my band they watched it on the xray. Then I drank a small amount of barium and they watched it go through to my stomach to make sure the fluid I was swallowing would go through the way it was supposed to. Will this help me lose weight any faster - I don't know. I just believe that it is more accurate in deciding how much fluid to put in my band. Hope this helps.

I just got my first fill Thursday. I got an X-ray before and after but not during the fill. Interesting to learn about other techniques.

During my recent fluoro, they have me stand up in front of a C arm fluro. He was able to see right away that I was too tight because the Barium took far too long to exit the upper pouch. I think it's superior in detecting problems but heard that since food doesn't go down like Barium does, it'll still rely more on honest patient-doctor communication to reach one's sweet spot. For example, letting your doctor know that you can eat more than 4 cups of food and get hungry within 2 hrs... etc. (need a fill) or keep getting stuck (need a slight unfill).

My surgeon does fill with flouro...I am scheduled for this on March 7 (first fill). My surgeon told me that he do this procedure so there is not much guessing game when he is doing fills.

I keep telling my surgeon that I can eat more

than 4 cups of foods and he gets mad, yet I feel like I have to beg him to get a fill. So frustrating ! Technically speaking, how many cups of food are we supposed to be eating ?

YES! Getting a fill while using Fluoroscopy, SHOULD help get you closer to proper restriction sooner. (In my case, it showed the band had come undone...yes, "unsnapped". An installation issue that was corrected.)

I had fills without it most of the first year I had my band. Now all my fills are done using Fluoro.

It is similar to a live XRay. They have me stand on the tilt table, insert the needle into the port, then drink a small amount of barium while the doctor watches the level of restriction or flow through the band area. The doctor can adjust the restriction while watching how fast or slow the barium moves through the band.

So for me, if I have the choice, I'll ALWAYS use the fluoro option. :)

We are only supposed to eat 1/2 cup of food. Eating 4 cups of food is way too much. If your doc is not listening to you the patient, then sounds like you need to change doctors. I hope you are able to get a fill soon, if not, maybe you need to search for another physician. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
