What is everyone's general calorie intake per day???

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 17 days ago....lost 26 pounds so far but have stalled for 5 days....wondering why I am not losing anything. I know I am eating more now since I have been on the mushie food stage but just wanted to know what is everyone's calorie intake...

Have you seen a nutritionist? If not you'll definitely want to do so. They will help you establish food guidelines specifically for your health needs.

Everyone here will likely have different answers (hence why you need to see a nutritionist) so I can only speak for myself. I eat between 1000-1200 calories a day.

I have not had my post op visit yet..going this Wednesday....so I really don't know what to expect....it just seems crazy not to lose for so many days...I had 1 visit with a "nut" and it was really just pre op important things... I am so grateful for all the info i have received from all of you guys on here..just really confused.

When you go in Wednesday, don't be afraid to take charge and ask direct questions. Ask specifically how many calories you should be eating and how much Protein you should be getting daily.

As far as weight loss, you have to remember the first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing. Your body has been through some major trauma and you're not on real food again yet. It's natural your body puts a halt to the weight loss to try to heal and adjust so don't let it concern you.

But, this is also why it's important to get some clear direction from your NUT and doctor.

Best wishes!

Yes... My weightloss had slowed down since starting food again.. But it has been consistently steady about a lb a day now

Your Dr. should have given you some guidance. I went to about 1200 calories a day. If I am in the green with a good fill I can manage between 900 and 1200 a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
