Hi everyone! I'm starting my soft foods next week, and I remember my doctor saying I was allowed to have chicken. If I find out I'm not allowed, I guess this question will still be helpful when I'm on solids. When you go out to eat and order chicken, how do you ensure that it's not too dry that would accidentally cause a stuck episode? I would be in such a panic if I had chicken that happened to be too dry and I had a stuck episode. Any tips?

Going out to eat is tough because you're at the mercy of the chef. If they have chicken in some sort of sauce or marinade, that's usually a guarantee it won't be too dry. Then you just have to be careful the sauce isn't some calorie monster. If you could find some sort of chicken in a Tomato sauce it would be a good bet for both moisture as well as not horribly high calories.

At home is easier for sure. I marinade both chicken and pork for about 4 hours before cooking them. Then when I bake them, I cover them in foil to help keep in the moisture.

If you are talking mushies I dont think chicken other then canned chicken applies. Even now 4 years out if I go out with family or friends I make sure the place we go has Soup options. I dont really have an issure with chicken unless it is over cooked. You also might want to try thighs. Also crock pot recipes are really great and easy.

thank you ladies! Very helpful tips! The place my boyfriend wants to go to for his birthday is a BBQ place and they have BBQ chicken.. they also have chili. I'll be starting soft foods on Monday. I'm going to check with my nutritionist as well.

Thanks again!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
