8 days post op having trouble sleeping on my back, please help!

Recommended Posts

I have been sleeping on my back because I am afraid I will hurt something or shift my band. Before surgery i have always slept on my stomach or side. Each night it is getting harder for me to sleep on my back. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Every day your body heals you will be able to get back to your normal way of sleeping. For some we had no problems getting right on our belly soon after surgery, for some it takes time.

Just to let you know nothing will happen to your band, you can put that fear aside. I got on my belly 3 days after surgery, some even got on their belly right after surgery. I took my time and eased myself into a postion where I was a little half on the side and a little half on the belly in the begining. I did this every day until I got fully on my stomache. (best night sleep ever)!

Keep trying every night to ease your way on your belly or side for starters so where you are fully in a comfortable position.

(hugs)

I slept on a recliner for about a week and 1/2. If you don't have one use lots of pillows to prop your head up. I had to do that during my knee replacement surgerys and couldn't sleep on my stomach/side. Good luck.

I used a body pillow (I am also a stomach sleeper) which I had from when I was pregnant. Its great to prop you up either from behind or under your stomach so your not really laying on your stomach but your not on your back either.

I'm a side, stomach sleeper and was sore when I tried to lay this way at first, so to lay on my back to make it comfortable, I took a pillow and put it under my knees and slept well until I could lay on my side again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
