Mushie Food...HELP!

Recommended Posts

I went for my 2 week post op visit yesterday. The NP told me to start a mushie diet and basically food has to be baby food consistency. She said everything needs to be blended. now... say what you want but I refuse to eat pureed food. I just cant do it, i will throw up and it will just be pointless! Any ideas for soft mushie foods?

I take grilled chicken or canned tuna and put it in the blender with a bit of mayo and mustard for moisture. Makes great tuna or chicken salad.< /p>

We have the same surgeon! Cool! I am interested to see the responses you get. It would be nice to have good choices without processing everything. Yuck!

I really like the canned chicken breast. I mixed it with chicken broth so it's moist and mashed it up with a fork. I ate cream of wheat, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, sugar free Jello and pudding.< /p>

Ricotta and cottage cheese topped with smooth spaghetti sauce heated in the microwave. Like heaven after liquids!!!!! Greek yogurt blended to get rid of fruit chunks, splendor a to taste. Canned chicken mixed with low fat laughing cow also microwaved.

Also a patient of Dr. Glasgow!

Last night i did ricotta cheese topped with Pasta sauce and part skim shredded cheese for dinner.

I am eating a lot of Starkist tuna salad, egg salad which I make with relish & mayo and my version of tacos which is ground beef, avacado, sour cream and salsa in the food processor.

I also add Protein powder to my mashed potatoes and fat free creamy italian dressing.

I am struggling a bit with fruits & veggies outside of the Protein shakes I add them to because the texture is more funky to me.

I do feel like after liquids this has been such a relief especially as savory foods go.

I was allowed to eat deli turkey. Refried Beans with a sprinkle of cheese is very satisfying. Egg Drop Soup is a thick Protein rich alternative.

You can actually get away with most any food as long as you chew, chew, chew. Once you learn how to eat with the band, most of the food that reaches your pouch is mush anyway. I wouldn't go out and eat a sirloin but maybe a meatloaf and chew it up real good. I know I'll get crap for this but if you follow the rules of chewing, it'll be beyond mush before it hits your stomach.

I think a lot of docs want us to refrain from eating solids at this point is due to the fact that we really haven't learned the chewing skills yet and if some pinhead* ripped off a huge chunk of chicken it probably wouldn't make it through the stoma and cause some harm. jmo

One of favorites was salmon mashed up, mixed with well cooked chopped broccoli and mashed potatoes :)

Avocado! I eat it all by itself. Or mash it with chicken or tuna for moisture. Cottage cheese, smoothies, add pesto sauce to your meats to soften it. Finely chopped! Even if its shredded-chop it up. Mashed potatoes, cream of broccoli-blended, cream of wheat. I thought purée would kill me too, but it's not that bad!! You will be surprised what works. Be creative!

I have also been using Laughing Cow cheese to add moisture to meats or hummus.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
