I went for my psych appointment today and was at goal weight!! I was talking to the nurse and she noticed there was an abnormality in my ekg, and my dr is in surgery so I will meet with her on Friday to hopefully set a date. What does an abnormality mean? I know its to make sure my heart is strong enough for surgery, but has this happened to anyone?

Not to scare u. Just trying to tell u what i heard. But one of my customers said he got an ekg done for some other reason. And they found an abnormality bc he had a heart attack a while back. He didn't even know he had one.

Im sure there are a million reasons why someone could have an abnormality. That was just his situation :)

Don't get too alarmed.. an abnormality could mean many different things and for different reasons..

EKG's measure the conduction of electrical impulses sent by the heart.. if for any reason that conduction is altered it should show.. many reasons will cause that electrical impulse to alter.

Anything from electrolyte imbalances.. problems with your heart rhythm.. a past or current heart attack.. the list can go on..

However if it was something that needed to get addressed quick I would hope they would have wanted you to see him that day.. so it seems its not too bad and maybe he just wants to do another exam or test..

Hopefully I explained that well enough or maybe someone can chime in who has more medical knowledge than I..

Thank you I'm trying not to get to worked up over it. I had a blood test taken the same day as the ekg, and I had to fast for it maybe that had something to do with it. I never had any heart problems, and I pray I don't now. But I can look at it this way, if there is something there, at least we can deal with it now before it turns into something major.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
