Yoda 0 Posted April 20, 2006 ...no...I don't mean "what to wear"!! I'm getting banded in two more days. Should I buy some "dressings" to have on hand at home? In other words, will there be any type of dressing that I have to change or anything like that? Any help/experiences on this would be appreciated. Otherwise, I think I have all I need. (famous last words!!). Tks!
KSWAN 0 Posted April 20, 2006 :welcomeB: Hi Yoda I am 2 weeks post op and still have the tape on my wounds. I did not need any other type of dressings due to this. However, a friend who had this done said their tape fell off after about a week and they used the butterfly bandages (you can find at any drug store). Good Luck to you and congrats on your decision! :clap2: :cheer2:
PhotoNut 7 Posted April 20, 2006 Nope, I didn't need anything other than what I was sent home wearing. I had a tape of some sort over steri strips. The tape can come off after a few days when you shower, but the strips stay on (or should) a bit longer. If your's comes off, I'd recommend getting in touch with your surgeon and seeing what he/she recommends as a replacment. May the band be with you, Yoda

argon 3 Posted April 20, 2006 Hey Yoda! Hello from SK! My steristrips started coming off pretty quick. I did end up buying some gauze and paper-type tape, and made sure I kept my port incision covered (had several strips on there and lost most of them after about 5 days) for a while longer, cause it was the most tender, and the one I didn't want irritated. Plus, for some reason, I don't know if everyone has this, but I had a stitch hanging out (that I had to have trimmed off after 2 weeks), and I didn't want to snag it! Good luck! I've heard nothing but good things about Dr's Joffee and Yau. Mandi
CTpaddler 0 Posted April 20, 2006 My surgeon used glue too and it was very odd. No dressings at all and it just came off by itself when the scab underneath was ready to come off. Ellen

sheryl 3 Posted April 20, 2006 Yes, my doctor used glue as well. No dressing or bandaids.
Poodles 0 Posted April 23, 2006 I would recommend some large latex free band-aids and some antibiotic cream. I change my appendix bandages everytime I take a shower and they are looking pretty good. Even if the doctor uses glue, it is better to be safe than sorry.
DonnaB 3 Posted April 23, 2006 My doc used the subdermal stitches like plastic surgeons do, with a generous squirt of of glue! I also had steri strips which completely fell off after about 10 days. My first steri strip came off after only a few days and that little cut looks the best. My second steri strip came off after about 5 days and that little cut is the darkest! Go figure. I've been using Maderma for scars ever since the scabs at the ends of my port wound fell off and I think it's really helping. They all feel smooth and flat, and look fairly pale pink already. I am six weeks and four days post op today. I've heard people say that having paper tape on hand is a good idea. If I'd had some I probably would have re-covered where the first two steri strips came off but all's well that ends well. Best wishes on your weight loss journey Yoda.
