Personal trainer or not?

Recommended Posts

Looked into getting a personal trainer bc im nervous about the extra skin and maybe learn a more structured workout.

He said it was 80 per hour and recommends in the beginning meeting at least once a week. Truth is i just cant afford that right now. I still have about 4k to pay for the surgery.

Any suggestions? Im pretty concerned about this extra skin but just cant afford an extra 80 a week. :/

Just do on your own whatever the personal trainer would do with you (minus the $80 bucks). Go to the gym 3-4x per week and do 30 mins cardio and 30 mins strength training.

Or buy a workout video and follow it at home

Or get a wii and do fitness on there

You get the jist....

I think trainers are fabulous.... If you can afford them!

I love using a personal trainer because it keeps me motivated I only pay 25 dollars a session or 200 dollars a month plus my gym memebership at PF of 10 dollars a month. Yes it is expensive but it did help me learn hown to exercise properly especially with weights. I supplement my trainer workouts with the DVD series, Jillian Michaels Body Revolution, this DVD series is easy to do and is pretty similar to my trainer work outs. I think 80 dollars is pretty steep for a trainer but I guess that depends where you live. I started out doing 3 sessions a month but had to back off to 2 sessions a month (cost) and occassionaly take a week off and do it on my own. But trainer or not, I agree with above, When I was actively losing I did 3 days a week of weights and 5 days a week of cardio of some sort.

My husband and I work in what's called small group training at our Y. It's one trainer And between 2-4 other people. It runs for 6 weeks and we meet with the trainer once a week for the hour. She customizes the workout for the group but also individuals. We pay about $18 a week (purchased as a 6 week block). Much more affordable than one on one.

I live personal trainers. Can't afford one either. They run about $120 per hour in my neck of the woods. I paid for a few sessions back in the day and then used what he taught me to work out on my own. But I do live when they are around to push you to go the distance. Kind of keeps me from wussing out. But you can definitely work out at home or at a gym on your own. There is also tons of info on the Internet for various exercises if you don't want to invest in a DVD or don't know what to choose. Maybe even try your library and see what they have?

I love love love my trainer. She is motivating and fun. However it is an expense, I pay 25 dollars per 1/2 hour session. It's gone up, but I am locked in to that price with a contract. Your motivation is to eliminate excess skin from what you said. Well... if that's your reason I would save your money for sure. In my opinion, exercise does not reduce excesss skin. Once the skin has lost it's elasticity, it's gone. Your skin may bounce back. It depends on genetics, pregnancy, weight gain and loss et... Plastic surgery once you've kept the weight off a while is obviously a solution, but expensive. My plastic surgeon got a machine called the venus freeze- but it's actually a warm treatment. It tightens loose skin. Not as dramatic as surgery, but his before and after pics look pretty good. You may want to google venus freeze and see if there is one in your area.

All that being said, weight training has tons of benefits. If you can't afford a trainer for the long term, maybe save up to have one for some limited number of sessions. Tell them your goal is to learn moves and a routine that you can continue on your own. Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
