I'm having a strange phenomenon. I'm a year post-op and I still have an issue with drinking. Whenever I drink anything (water, iced tea, Protein Shake, etc.) I get a lot of saliva in my stomach and I need to spit constantly. Is this from drinking too much too fast?

I can drink or even guzzle if I want but I never experience what you are experiencing? Does it feel like it's coming from your lower stomach or your pouch or your esophogus?

If it's in your stomach, you should also be tasting bile or gastric acids? If it's just saliva or slime, it's probably coming from your esophogus before the stomach? Either way it's something to talk to your surgeon about.

It's coming from my esophagus and I've been reading about it and people are referring to it as "slime". I understand that I might get it from eating improperly but drinking even a small amount can trigger the slime and a foamy spit.

If you are sliming from drinking liquids then I would think your (way) too tight!

Does food go down OK and what is a normal lunch or dinner for you?

Or, maybe a spasm when he drinks fluids?

I have that problem some time. It is usually when I have drank really fast and took a big gulp. I have had Water come back up because I drank to much to fast. Try very little sips and see what happens.

It does go down without an issue if I drink slow enough. I guess I'm trying to find that happy medium. Thanks everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
