Hi everyone! I am not on food yet, but I'm researching tons of recipes to be prepared and I keep finding tofu recipes and I have some questions for those of you who actually eat it.

1.) What are the benefits of tofu over other Proteins? (chicken, pork, beef, or fish)

2.) What kind of tofu do you buy? (brand, firmness)

3.) What is your favorite recipe?

Thanks SO much!

While I don't like Tofu that much I have friends who swear by it. It doesn't have as much saturated fat as other Proteins (beef, chicken). If I am going to eat it, I want the firm stuff and cut it up and cook it like chicken, that is the only way I can eat it.

Soft white fish is another great Protein. I buy talipia fillets in the frozen section at wallyworld. They are individually sealed, so I take a couple out for me and hubs thaw in cold Water - thaws quick. I season with garlic and lemon and bake. Very yummy soft and full of Protein. I was allowed this during the mushy faze.

love the ideas! I've had tofu in the past and nearly vomited, but it wasn't prepared any special way, so I'm looking for something that can change my mind. I've been checking pinterest endlessly and finding some recipes there as well. I love Tilapia! Thank you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
