Just had surgery. ..

Recommended Posts

Hey LB friends! Just had surgery 17 hours ago and WOW! Holy Moly Batman, Lol. I was so pumped and excited. The actual surgery went awesome, however, I have violently dry heaved 6 times, even on Zofran and it is causing unbelievably amount, causing multiple pain meds that help with pain, but doesn't help on an empty stomach. :-( So, its a vicious cycle. Must say that that part of this is just s big fat bummer, but I know it will only get better. They have strickly put me back on only ice chips once an hour, if lucky. Based on the dry heaving part (which feels worse than birth), does anyone have advice before the doctor comes to visit at 6 am? I some what want to until I get this under control...scared I may rip incision or cause slippage ones I get home without Zofran, promethezine and good pain meds. Anyone handle a violent recovery?

If you are still dry heaving he probably wont send you home. The usually wont send you home until that has stopped.

I had surgery on the 19th. Are you feeling better now? I have had pain in my neck and shoulder like a pinched nerve. Some stomach pain from too much broth at one time. whey Protein Powder, crushed ice, 6 ounces of 1% milk in a blender has been a life saver. I didn't expect to feel this rough, but it is surgery. Dlpleasants@fcps.edu if you want to email. Take care! Dave

Hey Dave. When I get back to a computer, I will add you to me email. I want to start my on blog, so if I do, I'll let you know. Days 1-3 were simi rough, but very manageable. Mentally, I felt like I conquer the world. I'm staying strictly to my oz feeding scedule and to my medicine schedule. Taking this whole process one day at a time, stage by stage. Today I actually git outside and enjoyed a walk through the farm and watched the sun set from my front porch. Daily reality set back in with my husband returning to work and me being back on Mommy duty, but I also have family help. Biggest help for me to keep it all straight is having an organized note book of all material, fully stocked on each product from stage 1&2, keeping a small dry erase board around to scedule meds and track each oz of liquid consumed. Been stretching upper body and moving around to help with gas trapped in shoulders and chest. With all things considering, I feel amazing and still looking forward to this journey. You keep it up as well, Dave. Slowly, it gets better and is worth it.

Just had surgery yesterday. Went pretty well I guess, no complications really. However I'm miserable and questioning my decision. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
