I have been wanting to get the lapband surgery but I just found out today from my insurance but I have to jump through hoops and wait for 6 months before I'm able to get my band.

My insurance company has the same requirement ( I Can ChangeProgram)

Frustrating, but I think it is a good thing.

I am in the program at my hospital, but, do not think I am getting enough information as to the lap band life style.

I had to wait 6 month for insurance to pay. During that time I was well educated my staff about lap band. My mother had hers done within 3 weeks being self pay. She hasn't done nearly as well as I have. We are both 4 and a half years out but she is still clueless about what she needs to eat or when she is too tight mostly because her surgeon (different from mine) doesn't have a good education program. Point is use this time to get all the education you can pre surgery. It's not a magic fix by any means.

Get started as it took me 6 months of preoperative testing before I had my surgery. They doc gets backed up and then he found Hiatal Hernia and that took more tests. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
