Thank you all for your responses! I do remember my doctor mentioning the harm gum can do if swallowed. I decided to say away from gum. Thanks again! :)

Everyone , responses and opinions are like navels we all have them.. Nobody has to be snarky or try to be cute when someone responds honestly to a question... I thought we were adults who were serious about weight loss on here, but evidence of the contrary is here on this thread. I am too old for drama and the "gotcha" game and I don't think my statement was meant to be silly or cute.. I simply said what My Dr. says.. that is what he is paid to do. There are always exceptions to some things and as a new band person I am very serious about not doing any damage to myself or my band..so think before you make your comments..

I hope you didn't think I was being snarky. I was being 100% honest. Even though your information didn't apply to a lot of people, I can tell for people like me that habitually swallow their gum it was an eye opener and something I'll be asking my surgeon about. I definitely don't want to have to have a piece of gum surgically removed once a week! O.o

Never understood the gum thing...My Dr. never told me no, and I don't get the "air" thing and pouch correlation at all....but, does not matter what I think, only matters what the consequences are for each individual....

I read things here every day that makes me scratch my head.....is it something people just hear? or is it it some things that people actually experience....I go by experience....and I have often learned the hard way.....

I was told not to chew gum and haven't for 3 years. My PA told me that it could clog the stoma and need to be removed thru endoscopy...expensive and unnecessary use of medical resources.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
