I usually have a snack before. I carry a large container of almonds in my car for that purpose. It's also the one situation in which I don't wait an hour to drink.

I don't go to the gym but I do exercise and I typically eat afterwards. The only exception is if my exercise is starting a little later in the day, i.e. 8.30am or later. Then I will have my normal Breakfast so that I have time for it to start digesting before working out.

Eat after. I read on some diet program that if you have food in your tummy when you start exercising then that is the first source of energy burned. So unless you feel feint while exercising, I'd wait until you are done and have cooled off. Just make sure you drink plenty of water!

I usually eat an hour or so before. I drink plenty of Water during and after. I have read that if you are going to eat before a workout, do it at least 45 mins prior. Eating too soon before a workout will make the blood flow to your stomach instead of the other necessary parts of your body, and contribute to cramping. Not sure if there is any truth to that but I found it interesting.

I eat after - unless I have planned a long workout a couple of times a week I do a 2/3 hour session run/spin/yoga then I have a protien shake for I go.

without getting too scientific, I have always believed that I want to burn energy from all that stored fat I have been hoarding for all these years, and that eating to exercise defeated the purpose....otherwise I would be burning what I just ate....

Granted, yo do need some energy to work out...but how much is up to you....

I run 5 miles, 5 days a week, at 5-6am on a empty stomach....I will have my morning coffee, a shot of Protein (15gm) and of course plenty of Water....

After a workout I have had periods of extreme hunger...My body wants to be replenished....I never give in...force it to turn to the stored fat....

I will have something, usually a high Protein recovery shake that satisfies that craving.....

I now have a very low body fat % index, Dr. says I have no fat left to burn...so I find i do need to fuel my body more than before....but not to extremes....don't want to make a pig of myself after all.....(not that the band would let me)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
