who here has been banded for at least 2 years and has had NO complications?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I've been perusing these forums more and more lately and I've noticed something disturbing: that anyone who's been banded for a while has had some complication or another- either a slipped band, an erosion, a flipped port, a leak etc...

I bet this is just my imagination, but I'd love to hear from old bandsters who have NOT had any complications with their band

Thanks!

Not a one......don't even think about the band on most days....

Have not got stuck or sllmed in over a year....it all has become a very natural, common part of me...as the same if I would have had total knee surgery 2 years ago....first came the post surgery, then the rehab, then life back to normal, even though it has changed, but it is the "New Normal" better than the old??

BTW, it is my view that the majority of people o this forum are here to complain or seek help...the successful ones have long moved on....people I looked to advice are no longer here.....I belong to one private group in particular, where they have all once been members here and refuse to come back stating it is too negative......

The sad thing is that I don't think there are many veteran bandsters without complications around. I know when I wasn't having trouble with my band, I didn't come to this forum anymore. You tend to set and forget, and you go on to live life in your 'new' normal.

I came back because I'm having complications. That's when I need support so I'm back looking for it. Mind you that's a generalisation based on my own experience but I don't think I'm far off the mark.

I guess what I'm saying is that you probably wouldn't get a true representation of long term bandsters on a site like this.

I'm over three years banded and haven't had any "band" issues. I did have a installation issue that was corrected. KNOCK ON WOOD! It works for me when I work with it. :)

I am 2 years out and no problems either. I hadn't been on here for quite a while either but now that I am trying to lose a few more pounds it is a nice site for motivation and support.

I'm at more than 2 1/2 years post banding and I have not had any "mechanical" complications. The only issues that I've had are Vitamin deficiencies brought on by MY choice to continue using Meal Replacement products instead of learning to eat real food. All resolved now, but a valuable lesson was learned.

I agree with the previous posters, you won't get an accurate representation of complication rates just by asking on LBT. You cannot assume that everyone has a complication after two years just because you see a number of them on this site. If that were the case, no insurance would cover the procedure. Just my opinion.

I have been banded 31/2 years and haven't had any real complications. I did get badly stuck last year and have to have an unfill but that is something that is easily solved, it isn't a real complication.

My band is not as effective now at controlling my hunger as it was initially but I think that is fairly normal as well.

I'm coming up two years and have had no issues with my band either. I guess it is just more common for people to post when they do have issues and are looking for input from others in a similar position than it is for those of us who are not having problems to post.

b... i want to join your group....lol

I have not had any that i know of. banded three years and three months

I do feel that since i had a complete unfill for my Tummy Tuck i have had a heard time with restriction. I feel it for about a week and then pretty much nothing. Before TT i had 10.5 in my 14cc band.... i'm back at 10.5, but no restriction like it was before.

Hi Lapbandster...I did have a slip and needed surgery to revise it, but it was due to extreme vomiting and not the band at all. I would suggest to anyone to either a) carry prescription strength anti nausea drugs (my PCP makes sure I have a recent prescription at all times because I travel and B) get to the Dr when you start vomiting.

For me, I was travelling in a foreign country when it started and slipped all in 1 day of extreme vomiting.

Other than that...the band has been GREAT!

Two years and three months later, and I still love my band. I have had no complications, and had such success with it that my nineteen year old daughter just got banded last week. I look forward to seeing her success as well. Good luck to all, and congratulations to all who have succeeded!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
