Stuck episode

Don't ever try and eat ham steak!

I don't know what I was thinking but I ate a piece of ham steak.

It got stuck so I drank Water to wash it down.

The water came up my nose and I couldn't take a breath.

So scary.

I thought I may pass out.

I blew the water out of my nose and could take a breath.

Then I threw up for the first time since my surgery 9/20/12.

It was still stuck but I threw up again and it dislodged !

I drank water and now I'm not going to eat today or tomorrow

Wow

I better stick with fish and chicken and turkey meatloaf!

I was debating weather to get a fill at my appt. on the 19 th.

Now I know I don't want one !!!

I have 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band.

I know is not the best feeling I got stuck ones but I learned my lesson I though I was going to die. I think we all have to go tru that situation at least once so that we dont forget to chew again

If you're going to eat meat like that you better be sure your mouth can imitate a high quality food processor. Even then there's no guarantee.

And one more thing? Some people do swallow Water to help dislodge food but it only creates more pain and pressure for me so I stop everything and wait an hour or so for the pouch to massage that bolus of food through the stoma. So far, so good.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Yesterday when I saw my dietitian she had ham on my food list but I don't eat ham but I eat pork. The list says to chew until the food is like apple sauce before you swallow. I have had food stuck and just walked until the feeling went away. Before you say no to a fill, talk to the doctor about what happened. He knows best.

Wow.. glad you're feeling better.. naturally we think drinking will wash the food down but I too found out differently.. it just creates more issues.. talk to your doctor and see what he/she recommends..

Glad you are better..

Ham is edible for me if I chew it to mush, but then I chew everything to mush! LOL

If I buy ham cubes they do better with me because they are processed with Water. I dont think I would try a hamsteak. I dont do pork either. Both stuck buggers for me. But next time dont drink the water lol that is the worst thing ever. I know you want it to go down but all it does is make the water come back up.

I have no problem with ham either. You may find that some foods get stuck at times and other times no problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
