What to do, what to do

Recommended Posts

Hi once again I am turning to ya'll for advise. I began the journey for lapband in July 2012. I met with a doctor who has a very nice staff, but although the doc was nice and has a good track record his bedside personality was not the best and he overloaded me with information and I left totally overwhelmed. During the consult I was "sold" lapband and plication. They told me upfront that plication was non insurance covered and I would pay an additional fee of $750, I agreed. All my life ive been a chunky monkey. The office submitted my paperwork and I was denied. I wasn't "fat enough" they appealed it once and once again I was denied. They informed me that they had done all they could. I took the bull by the horns and have written letters, made phone calls, talked to people...long story made short on Valentines day I was given a verbal approval!! (still waiting for approval letter). Meanwhile ive talked to a ton of people who have told me about dr #2. I must say that everytime I call his office I get a real person on the first ring. Dr #2 staff said with my insurance I wouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket and couldn't understand why dr #1 said that....anyway I asked if they do plication and was told I would need to attend a seminar, Ok I could do that. What I am scared of though is will that mess up my approval??? I DO NOT want to go through all that again. Should I just go with dr #1 and just do lap band or should I see dr #2 and then make the final decision?? Please yall I need help!!!!

I forgot the most important part in my plea above. I am now being told that dr 1 no longer does plication due to paperwork and it could be months before he does again, if ever. During the initial consult I was basically told lapband alone was not enough, but now suddenly it is ?????

You should be able to get all your records sent from Dr #1 to Dr #2. Check with your insurance to see whether they cover Dr #2 and what hoop-jumping you might have to repeat.

i think which ever surgery you are able to get, you should

if its only the lap band, then work the h ell of out it and be a success

if you get the band and plication, then again work the he ll out of it and be a success

either one you will have to change what and how much you eat to lose weight.

you do not need the plication to aid the band to lose weight. many on here do not

have it.

my dr offered it because my bmi was 62 and i was super morbid obese.

he told me it wouldnt work unless i heled the band and plication.

i say this only because i dont want you to get hung up on something that may or may not happen.

which ever you get, it will work

if you help it.

why did Dr 1 say that the band was not enough? check with insurance comp if Dr 2 is ok with them and then go see what he is all about. At this stage you cant have to much information check it all out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
