Hiatal Hernia Diaphragm Pressure

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I was banded yesterday AM and found out post op that I had a hiatal hernia. My amazing doc did the repair however, getting up and the diaphragm pressure is super uncomfortable. With this and the combination of the port pain, I could use some advice. I am walking around however, I can totally feel the internal swelling.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make this pain more bearable besides the Pain Meds? THank you bandster's for the advice and any view points are appreciated.

Diana

I was banded on Monday and had also found out post-op that I had a hiatal hernia that the my surgeon repaired! I feel like the hernia repair is the most painful part of the surgery. I have been walking as much as possible even though I get super tired QUICK. Have you been using a heating pad at all, I found this helped me a lot! I hope you figure out something to help you along the way!!

It seems like hiatal hernia is common .. I've read 4 threads not including mine where surgeon had had to fix hernia after finding it during surgery

I had a hernia repaired too...the short answer to what will help the pain, is time. Every day you should feel better than the last and about a week from now you will feel sooooo much better. Hang in there and congrats on your banding! :)

Me also, hiatal hernia repair. Seems to be very common for us all. Thank god no more heartburn! Deep breaths, heating pad and making it through one more day. Yes, it really does get better.

Thank you everyone. I might have to look into getting a warming pack or something to lay on my chest. I appreciate it everyone.

I was banded yesterday and hiatal repair. The heating pad does wonders. Pain med I was also told to take liquid Motrin at the same time. Deep breaths even though it hurts.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
