I am a 25 year old woman who is 5'7 and I weigh 215 lbs. I am 33 BMI and all costs of surgery is not covered through my insurance so I am paying $9000 out of pocket. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there that has already gone through this and could give me some advice. I have been big my entire life and around 18 I started to yo-yo diet. I have been hearing from my doctor lately "your blood pressure is a little high" and that scares me. I'm too young. My great grandfather died from a heart attack, my grandfather died from a heart attack, my aunt had a heart attack and survived after open heart surgery and my mom has had two heart attacks. They were all related to obesity. To top it off both sides of my family are diabetics. I see a doctor on the 26th and I need to know what questions I should ask. Help?

What are his fill protocols? You don't want some doc who is ultra conservative and only gives fills every 2 months and only gives .5 CCs per fill.

How often can you get filled?

Does he give out his cell number for emergency calls?

Does he charge for fills? And for how long?

Is there a nutritionist on staff?

How many bands has he placed? Should be 500+

What about drinking and eating at the same time?

What other expenses can you expect? Some docs use out of network surgery assistants and they bill you separately?

What are his dietary protocols after surgery?

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
