The wife and I are planning to do the Zombie Run later in the year! I plan to use the couch to 5k system for sure.

To those doing the couch to 5K, how are you doing the program? With a phone app or just online? Where do you get best information for it? I have seen a website and I could use a phone app, but not sure I would like that.

I use an app called Ease into 5k from Bluefin. It was free and I really like it. I use my own music and it gives me cue when to run, when to walk. I like that it's idiot proof, meaning I don't have to keep track of how long I've been running or walking. Since it's free you might want to give it a shot.

I am so glad that there is this topic....I am interested in this program as well and want to run a 5K as soon as I possibly can. This is a personal goal for me and I will feel very accomplished when I do.

Where can I get the program. I saw something brief on the internet. Is that how everyone else is doing it??

Any advice?

Google it. There are many out there. Some free some not. I don't have a smartphone so I downloaded a couple different podcast to my mp3 player. there are several smartphone apps for it. I am on my 2nd week of week 1 about to move to week 2.

Just finished week four!! I NEVER thought I could ever run for 5 mins without stopping! Is it ok if I jog very slowly only at 4.0 mph? Or do I need to pick up the pace?

I love that we are in the same spot in the program. I just finished Week 4 this evening. :) woohoo!!

You are doing just fine. I would suggest bumping up to maybe a 4.2 for the last minute or 30 seconds of the jogging sections and see how you feel.

I am going 4.5 or 4.6, my limit right now.

My 5k is in a month. I am scared. Do people actually RUN 5ks? I feel like I could do a slow jog.

go at the pace you are comfortable, but try and push yourself as well. I'd rather "run" slowly for 20 minutes than try and run faster and only for for 5 minutes and feel like I'm going to die. My plan is to finish the program and be able to "run" for 30 minutes and then work on increasing my speed.

At the 5ks I've done there's been a mix of true runners, slow joggers and walkers. Some people walk faster than I "run", but I also pass some people too. the first one I did the 1st place finisher was done shortly after I finished my first mile, but that didn't matter. I finished, that's what's important!

HI! I am in the middle of week 4 of Couch to 5K. I never thought I could be a runner, but I've been sticking with the program and am doing it. I registered for my first 5K for April 28th. I am so excited!

I ran my first 5k in 40 minutes in March of 2012. My most recent 5K was October and was in 34 minutes!

U just go your pace and run your race. A good friend of mine always places and finishes in the 20s. She's a speedy devil. One thing for sure is that NOBODY cares how fast or slow you go and everyone there will praise you for finishing.

When I was banded a year ago, I started the c25k right after my doc gave me exercise clearance. I finished the program in 11weeks (I repeated a couple if weeks) and finished my first 5k race at 35mins in September 2012. I lost 40lbs during the process and after a long winter, I've started the program again to increase my speed and hopefully lose another 40. Even though I completed the program a year ago, starting it back up is still a lot of work and very difficult. Although it gives you incriminates of walking and running it is very challenging to say the least.

I carry all of my weight in my lower half. Being pear shaped and 50lbs overweight, I still have trouble with keeping motivated. I can hear that inner voice telling me I can't. "You're too heavy to run. You look ridiculous. You're too fat." Sounds nuts but that's the inner fat person refusing to let you go. And that's the only thing holding you back. We are designed to run. It's possible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
