Surgery in the morning......

Recommended Posts

Writing that just feels so surreal. I have never had surgery before, so I am anxious about that.

I also have a ton of emotions. I feel sad that I let myself get this way. I feel worried about leading a normal life afterwards. I know there is a healing time, but I don't want everything I do to revolve around the band. I suppose it's just a lot of the fear of the unknown......

it's all going to be great. The next step is only a moment and the band will help us for the rest of our life. Of course, we have to use it properly, but there are so many success's in front of us. It's going to be a great journey and I look forward to helping you Celebrate every pound you loose, (coming from a fellow Feb banster)

Cheers to tomorrow

You both are barely ahead of me, mine is Friday morning. I feel tons of emotions, but my mind is strong. We are ready for the journey and it is going to be the best thing we have ever done. The band is going to be our best diet buddy. Let us focus on the positive and forget the negative. Good luck tomorrow. I will keep you in my prayers.

My Anesthesiologist told me, in response to my freak out about being 'put under', "I can give you all the risks but the percentages are very small. Or we can talk about the higher risk daily things...like getting in a car every morning."

That, along with some anti-anxiety meds in my IV, pretty much settled my fears! It will be fine...you will do great!

Congrats on your new journey!

Well I'm on the other side. Not much pain so far. Just feels like period cramps. No left shoulder pain at all :) starting to burp a little though from the gas.

Hoping for a smooth recovery!

Hey guys......I had my surgery last Friday 2/15.... All went well but they did find a hiatal hernia as well. So, that's slowing down recovery a tad bit....all is well though so thanks for all of the positive support.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
