Restaurant Card

Recommended Posts

Did anyone receive a card for dining out??? I have heard you will be allowed to order off the kids menu rather than the adult. My dr's office has not mentioned this but I would love to ask. I am wasting so much food & money even with to go plates. I can get 4 meals from one to go box of grilled fish & veggies! I am tired of it after the 2nd round:)

This isn't something I've ever used. I just share with someone, order a cup of Soup or if the kids menu has a healthy option, I just ask if its okay to order, since I'm recovering from surgery.

I don't like to call attention to my WLS in public.

What sort of card? I've never had trouble ordering off the kids menu or just getting a salad (haven't had surgery yet) so why do you think you need something special to do so...?

Most of our local restaurants do not allow anyone over 12 yrs of age to order from the kids menu. I have been sharing with my 4 yr old when he is with me. If not I typically order grilled fish or chicken with steamed veggies.

That's very interesting! I've only heard of that applying in places where kids eat cheaper (and portions not necessarily smaller). Guess I'll need to be on the look out next time I go out!

Most kids menus state for 12 and under...the card just states that you have had wls and asks that you be allowed to order off of the kids menu....I just order fish or salad and take most of it home :)

I'm not sure that I would use it much b/c most kids menus are fried nuggets or burgers but there are a few menus w/ small steak portions or grilled items. I have also heard you can use them at buffets. I can't eat half a plate of food now much less a large buffet amount. An adult buffet vs. a child buffet price is typically a large amount. We typically eat out once on the weekend & I don't want my family always working around my WLS.

I didn't ask for a card but my doctor gave me one automatically. I have never used it since I don't eat out. If I did eat out I would probably just order an appetizer though. Keep it in my wallet anyway just in case the opportunity arises to use it.

I was given it at my extremely long pre op appointment...less than a week before my surgery :)

You can ask your surgeon for the card.

It isn't a Restaurant Card but more a card that says you have had lapband surgery. I have one but have never used it, for two reasons. The kids menu tends to be unhealthy items, sad but true for sit down restaurants and also, because I don't want to explain and advertise to the server about my surgery and have them potentially call a manager over for approval, etc. Now, for a buffet, I have heard of people using it. A woman at my support group was going to a Brazilian steakhouse for a party, which is costly and HUGE portions. She called ahead to the manager and explained and they allowed her to order at the kid's price withthout the embarassment.

Ask your doctor or go to www.lapband.com and you can register your surgery there. That is how I got my card

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
