Just a quick question. I have been getting heartburn some. Is that because I have eaten too much, or what is causing that? Just trying to figure out the soft stop etc.

I am also 4 days out and I have a similar situation.i would call it more of a pressure in my chest. I feel like it may be the pressure to stop but I am not sure! I would love if someone would rely to this post for us :) such a weird new journey and have no one around me that was ever banded.

I'm 1 week post-op today and still on Clear Liquids and skim milk. I don't start any pureed food until 2 weeks out.

If you eat or drink and then lay down or even recline, that could cause reflux/heartburn. There are many possibilities. Are you on liquids? If anything call your doctor.

I'm on full liquids, plus puréed eggs and cottage cheese. I only have experienced it twice. Think it's just part of getting used to eating/drinking/ and getting use to all the signals and learning to eat again. I will mention it to my Dr when I see him Fri. It's not consistent so I'm not worried.

For me the pressure in my chest was gas pains. I called my doctor cause it was freaking me out. Every day it eased up more and now I am almost 3 weeks post op and the pressure is completely gone. I do still get pains in my shoulder when I eat though.

You are still healing and some will take 4-5 weeks to heal. Do only liquids for the first 10 days or follow your doctors orders completely. Do not deviate! I added an extra week of liquids to my post op to make sure I was okay in the healing process. People want to lose their weight quickly and hopefully look good. A BNig mistake! Take it slower and steady and learn how to eat good and make proper choices. This is a Lifetime committment.

Best wishes

I agree with everyone before.. it could be a range of things.. gas from the CO2 used during surgery.. irritation from the band due to inflammation.. acid reflux can form because of the irritation.. walking will help the CO2 problems and most doctors encourage an OTC acid reducer like prilosec or nexium.. try to keep away from acidic drinks.. juices and coffee are the worse.. anyhow if its too bad then check with your doctor.. wishing you both a blessed journey..

Thank you guys for all your posts. Very helpful. When I said eating I just meant like the broth and yogurt and stuff that is liquid diet compatible. I have such a gurglly stomach now but no gas or chest pain :) thanks again

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
