Will work approve a 2 week leave?

Recommended Posts

I work for a major corporation, we have 1,000's of employees & are coast to coast. My Dr likes to see you take 2 weeks off, & at work we have to use 5 days of our own time before a "leave" is approved & paid for. Does anyone out there know how likely my 2 nd week will be approved? I'm really kinda hesitant to turn in any paperwork if its an absolute no! I have a huge HR/leaves dept. where I fax everything into, so I'm wondering if they'd communicate to my boss what kind of surgery I'm having? Hopefully someone out there has HR experience & can let me know...

If your doctor writes a note stating that it is medically necessary for you to be out of work you should be fine. I once took 3 weeks off prior to giving birth to my daughter because I was just too tired all the time and exhausted so my job did permit need to leave work early. My job was not a extenuating job either I work in customer service in a cubicle sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day, so you should definitely get approved the doctor's note

I was really wondering the same thing. I want to take off 2 weeks as well. I've asked my nurse and she said it doesn't appear to be a problem!!!

Seems like with Hippa, you shouldn't have to say what kind of surgery you are having. Just a medical procedure and if HR did tell the boss, that seems like it would be against hippa policy too.

I know there has to be a HR person here and will be interested to see what they say.

Good Luck!

I'm a teacher and I just put in for my two week leave. I have to use my sick days, which luckily I have enough, and then submit paperwork from the surgeon saying I need the recovery time. I then have to submit a second note when I return saying it's safe for me to return to my job. All jobs are different but it seems that it would be a no brainer that you could have recovery time in such a large corporation.

Good luck =)

There is most likely a specific form that HR will provide for you. You are allowed the time off for a medical procedure under FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act). The Dr. will state why you need the time - Laproscopic surgery. As for the HR department - they have confidentiality requirements not to discuss that sort of thing. I wouldn't worry about that. Take the two weeks and focus on your healing. It is worth it.

From an HR perspective it's what ever your company policy says. All you should have to do is get a note from your dr saying you will be having surgery and have to take off from this date to that date. As a safe guard I might have my immediate supervisor write a short letter with her/his approval for the time off so you have that base covered.

Best wishes!!

Well I don't have any HR experience but I do know that you can go to your HR department and ask them to give u papers for FMLA family medical leave which is basically to protect your job which I am on now but far as HR contacting your boss about your surgery they can't and not suppose to share or talk about your procedure to anyone it's called violating HIPPA which is your rights of confidentiality they can be sued. And as for u having to take off 5 days before u can use your other week PL is very backwards to me how it works for me and I work at a hospital we gain PL time each pay week and if you have enough te for 1week 2weeks and etc u fill out the slip and If there is coverage u get those days off. So In my case I just went to Hr got the papers of the FMLA filled them out got my boss to sign her name and gave the other papers to my dr to fill out once that was done took them to my employee health department and then they emailed me back and once that was done they contacted my manager with the dates that I was leaving. So I think u should look into FMLA. Hope this help u with what u need. God bless you on this wonderful journey because in the end it's worth it.

My doctor said with this surgery he could give me up to 6 weeks off n I took it. My job is very demanding and I play a very critical role. My manager wouldn't approve the time off before the holidays but was okay with me going in Jan. I had my surgery on Jan 2nd. It is medically excused. I was able to take the first week off with paid sick leave n the next 5 weeks I will get paid disability plus sick leave. I had to get it approved by my manager first n had to fax my approval to HR. I have been very open with my surgery so my manager knows what's going on but HR doesn't need to know ur having WLS they just needed my doctors note which stated "recovery from surgery" hope this helps.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
