Question about alcohol

Recommended Posts

Quick question...when did you guys have your 1st alcolholic drink after getting the band? I am 20 days post op and down 25 lbs (including liquid diet) This week has been hectic and exciting, celebrated my 2 yr anniversary with my boyfriend and today is his birthday. Just wondering if having one glass of white wine will do any harm? Tganks for the input

I can drink wine or a beer very slowly and remember to keep track of calories. They add up quickly and no real nutritional value. But for me, this journey is about being involved in life and not being a part so once and a while works for me.

And realize that alcohol will affect you so much more now. You are not eating as much to slow down the digestion.

I had 1 Cosmo last night and was hammered. I had 3 sips of my 2nd one and had trouble walking so I put it down. Be VERY careful, alcohol is very different on the band. Much stronger. And yes count those calories! On the plus side, with alcohol being so high cal and not nutritional, at least we don't need much at all to get a buzz.

P.s I waited a month before my first drink and only drink for really special occasions cos getting drunk makes me wanna eat!!

I drink wine every night before dinner, always have. 5oz of wine is about 120 calories (empty calories).

Keep in mind that alcohol makes you hungry and therefore it can be easy to snack too much when you drink (is for me).

As long as your doctor doesn't have any restrictions regarding alcohol and you count the calories then enjoy.

I waited about 6 months...wanted to be sure I was concentrating on getting things working right...once I hit that Green Zone and found my "Groove"...I learned I was able to do all sorts of things properly without disrupting this new lifestyle.......but within that initial adjustment stage I didn't mess around all that much....

I drink in moderation but not frequently ...not changed since I had my lap band. But. The others are right ... Empty calories, plus the feeling and ability to be able to consume more food may lead to self sabotage if you cannot keep in control. Foods'my demon not alcohol ... So happy days :)

I was told no alcohol for 6 months after my surgery because beside being empty liquid calories, it's a gastric irritant.

My 1st drink was at around 8 months post-op. I was on a business trip and ordered an appletini. I felt fine until I tried to stand up.Oooof!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
