Good bye Lapband...

Recommended Posts

This coming Wednesday, February 13th, I'm having my Lapband removed. I'm really not happy about it, but I need to have it done. I had it put in February '08, and the first six months were great. I started having symptoms after the second fill, when the acid reflux and the pbing started. I was filled and unfilled countless times, and the last unfill I had, August '10, I was told that it needed to come out. Unfortunately, I was having MAJOR problems at work at the same time and the stress was unbearable. I think it may have contributed to these issues with my band. I managed to gain all but ten pounds of the fifty I had lost since getting the band because I was pretty much COMPLETLY unrestricted. I since was fired, unable to find a job and now for the past two months, I pretty much have been on liquids and very soft, mush foods. I lost twenty, which isn't a bad thing, but the band is bothering me ALL the time. I feel acid reflux in my throat and have a constant lump.

I'll be going to another doctor to have it removed, who very graciously is doing it pretty much last minute, and hopefully be able somehow not gain back weight. He offered to do the sleeve at the same time, but I feel that the inflammation and scarring will be too much.

I hope everything will be ok. I'm kind of worried.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
