wozzicat 36 Posted February 10, 2013 I was banded on feb 8th. I'm not looking for a miracle but so many people are talking about how well they are tolerating liquids. I'm not tolerating them much at all. It hurts to swallow. Is there anyone else like me? 1 PattyGirl66 reacted to this
LadyDreadHead 90 Posted February 10, 2013 I'm not banded yet. However, I think I read that a tube is placed down your throat during the procedure. That may be the cause of your soreness. Give it a couple of days. I've had several endoscopies. However after the one I had a month or so ago, it took almost a week for my throat to stop feeling sore. 2 2muchfun and Maddysgram reacted to this
Spaness2012 609 Posted February 10, 2013 Call your docs office tomorrow if you feel like your not getting better. Recovery take some time. It took me the better part of 2 days to really keep any liquids down at all.
firefaerie266 53 Posted February 10, 2013 When you say it hurts to swallow, do you mean that your throat/neck hurts? Or that you have difficulty keeping liquids down? If you can't get the liquids in your stomach, I'd call your surgeon - you don't want to get dehydrated. If it's just pain swallowing that could be from being intubated or something else they did during the actual procedure. When I had my gallbladder removed a few months ago I was flat on my back for 2 days because my trachea would start to spasm if I sat upright or inclined for too long (longer than 30 mins). Now that hurt! 3 A New New Dawn, PattyGirl66 and Rockstar_Jen reacted to this

I worry I made a mistake if I feel like this now

They said I would be swollen for a few days. I worry I made a mistake if I feel like this now I wasn't able to get a lot of liquids down the first few days with the swelling, sore throat, etc. It gets better. For the first few days I could sip small quantities so it's important to keep sipping throughout the day until you can drink more normally. This will pass as the swelling and irritation subsides. Sip, sip, sip. However, definitely call your doctor/nurse if you have questions/concerns. 5 Maddysgram, firefaerie266, PattyGirl66 and 2 others reacted to this

I guess when people say they are tolerating liquids well that is that interpretation. It could mean they aren't vomiting. I don't know if it is a concern or I just don't know what to expect

You more than likely still sore from surgery (the tube they stick in your throat), leaves a lot of dryness, soreness, etc. Since you stated you are able to keep fluids down, that is just fine! Keeping hydrated is key, sipping all day long will help that. Hang in there sweety! (hugs) 1 DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! reacted to this

CHEZNOEL 4,061 Posted February 10, 2013 Keep sipping and try warm teas. It sounds like you are having recovery issues, not band issues right now. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

I wasn't worried about band issues because I don't think I would keep anything down. Now I'm freaking out wondering if I will be able to eat when the time comes

Now I'm freaking out wondering if I will be able to eat when the time comes Pretty much guarantee that after swelling subsides, you'll be able to eat.lol, unless Dr gave you a fill during surgery. You'll find talk on here about "bandsters hell", when you're so hungry to eat, but only allowed a certian amount. That last until you have enough fills to have restriction, which can take several fills. Try and relax, you'll be fine. I remember after I was first banded and every day was a new fear. Turns out, nothing to fear, but fear itself.lol Good Luck! 2 A New New Dawn and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

It is also interesting I got a 10cc band when they normally do 14cc. Now I have lots of questions.
Tiny1234 121 Posted February 10, 2013 Hi wozzicat, I believe you and I were banded at the same place, I also have a 10cc band and I also was struggling to get liquids in for the first few days. These forums made me very nervous because I kept reading drink, drink, drink...and I wanted to reply I can't, I can't, I can't. My 3rd day was my worst day. But after that things to better day by day. Give yourself time, do what you can to drink but don't feel guilty if you can't get it all in. You eventually will. Best of luck! I got 3cc fill at my 6wk post op check. 1 A New New Dawn reacted to this
