Weight loss 3 weeks

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone !

I have a question/ something I just need to get off my mind. My doctor didnt require a pre op diet. Although I did try (kinda felt guilty so many of u had to do it so I tried too, minus mcds the sat and sun before surgery:)) I lost 7 pounds before the surgery. After surgery I was on Clear liquids for 1 week And at day 5 began Protein Shakes. At my first weigh in which was about a week later from surgery I lost 14.4 pounds. My doctor did explain how he believes taking all the junk out of the body and building up food by slowly reintroducing fats carbs and sugars. So I began my 2 week Protein shake diet with the required 60 grams of protein per day.

I went on the scale today and saw maybe MAYBE a 1 to 2 pound loss. Now I know w the band that's typical of weight loss per week but I feel kind of defeated and sad that all I'm drinking are Protein shakes and I've only lost a pound?!? 14.4 in a week is great would have taken me over a month on weight watchers, but I feel kind of upset. I know my band isn't a magic solution but if I'm just having these shakes which are 100 cal 17 grams of protein etc why such slow loss? Sorry if I seem like a baby about this I can become a bit obsessed w the scale numbers but I needed to vent without someone replying " well what else r u eating then" lol thanks for all the support everyone is constantly giving it really is quite motivating:)

Hey there I am also 3 wks. out on mon. and I am in the same boat and I am exercising 3-4 days a week. I lost 11 pounds after one week after my surgery and then only 1 lb. since. I hope this isn't always how it will be.

It's common after surgery for the body to go through a healing period which tends to stall out the weight loss. If you are eating or drinking between 1000 to 1200 calories the loss will come.... Just keep doing what you are doing and don't forget to drink lost of water... That alone will help tremendously.

The math will owe you - always! And after a sudden 14 lb loss your body is probably panicking thinking its in danger. I imagine my body's moaning over the lack of cheese and bread and putting up a toddler tantrum by not letting go of the fat stores that its been raiding to keep itself running. i just have to wait it out - toddlers will cry themselves to sleep eventually :)

Don't lose faith, the lack of weight loss, if your intake is what you say, is just temporary. This is all normal and ill say it one more time because it will always be true: the math will owe you.

Thank you all so much it keeps me strong and motivated and especially like the toddler analogy ... Because as u said my toddler always does eventually fall asleep and gets there by Protein Shakes :)

I went through the same thing and second week of liquids stayed the same weight for 2 weeks. Dr explained that my body was in starvation mode because I wasn't eating enough calories but also advised that I was still healing and to try not to weigh myself for the first 6 weeks (impossible) but once I started mushy food and upped my calories slightly I started losing again. Hope this helps.

Thanks again, I don't know what I feel but I feel like having a new toy I can't play w cuz I'm in liquids then I start thinking Ive come this car on shakes why stop? I will say mentally, this phase is sooooo confusing its emotionally draining. I go from missing food to not being hungry to not thinking ill ever eat again lol. Then the scales said minus 2 and I haven't eaten in 2 weeks.....

I get what everyone is saying and I thank you I just worry that my body is ok and this is what it will take to lose even a pound that's was worries me

During the healing stage isn't it true that you won't have your first fill yet? Or do some patients receive their fill during their surgery?

It really depends on the dr. I didn't have a fill for 2 months postop because I was losing well without one... But I think each situation is different.

Most doctors say 1 to 2 pounds a week is expected with lap band so I would get use to that level of loss. Some of us lose even less than that. Remember when you first started you were going from eating regular foods ie McDonald's to eating low fat low cal. I wish doctors or more upfront with people about how fast they will actually lose. Some people do lose large amounts for weeks on end most people however do not. I'm not trying to be mean spirited I just think you need to put the rate of lost in perspective.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
