Feb 20 is the big day.

Recommended Posts

Well Feb 20 is the big day. It's such a relief to know that insurance has approved & this WILL take place. It's been a very long road.

2 years ago i was supposed to have this surgery on Sept 21, 2011 but my crap insurance, United Healthcare denied me 2 days before surgery. They determined that since I'd only been morbidly obese for the past 2 years not the past 5 years, I was not eligible. Basically, they told me I wasn't fat enough for long enough. I appealed four times, to no avail.

I've since started a different job with new, better insurance, and they approved me right away.

As long as I've waited for this, and as much as I want it, I'm still nervous, the closer we get to Feb 20. Can't wait to have the surgery & healing part over with!

Wishing you lots of luck. I'm one day ahead of you. Had my presurgical review with doctors, hospital and and all the staff. I too had bet set to do this 5 years ago and got to about 1 week before surgery and after being told my insurance would cover, I was then told they wold not preapprove, but I could have the surgery and if they decided not to pay after the fact I was stuck with about 13,000 in bills. Hoping this does not happen this time too. Best of luck.

I'm tentatively scheduled for Feb 19th. Still waiting for insurance approval. It makes me a little anxious that I haven't received approval yet. But, I was told that the person that submits authorizations at my surgeon's office almost always get them approved. Wish me luck!

Hi Im glad to see so many people get their approval. I had my surgery on Feb 5 2013 and everything turned out great. I had a little discomfort afterwards but hey no pain no gain! But at first I was worried because I was losing so much weight on my preop liquid diet. I lost 11 pounds in 10 days then after the surgery I lost 13 more pounds to date. So Im losing very fast. Ive learned so far its all about toning toning toning. The summer is 4 months away and the people who are banding now will look brand new by then.

I pray all goes well for you and your recovery! Congrats, like my friend told me "Welcome to the land of bands!!!!" lol B)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
