How soon did you start?

Recommended Posts

I was told no lifting over 20 pounds and no exercise other than just light walking around the house and what not for 2 weeks. I have a tread mill in my house and I'm wanting to get back on it but I'm not going to injure myself and disobey my doctors orders by rushing things. I'm just curious how soon all of you began to resume your normal exercise routines after your surgery and how long you worked out at first when you started back up.

You'll have to ask your surgeon to be safe, but I was able to walk as soon as I felt up to it. So, the treadmill would've been fine after surgery.

However, my instructions were different than yours. I couldn't lift more than 10 pounds for 4 weeks.

Check with your own doctor and follow his instructions, though. Best wishes.

I went back to work at 3 weeks post op lifting 250 to 500lb patients so I would say that counts lol. As for exercise I only do my walk away the pound tapes and I started them about 6 weeks post op but I did walk everyday outside for about 60 minutes

I started walking around the block right away because it helped me with the gas pains. I didn't start anything rigorous till 6 weeks out but would walk for 30 min 4 times a week from week 2.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
