High protien cream soup

Recommended Posts

OK just created something really goo and thought I'd share. This is for those who are on liquids and don't have any Protein Shakes in the house or are tired of them. This is a little high in fat and mediocre on carbs so moderation is important.

Make a basic white sauce (1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup butter or margerine, milk as needed)

then add

2 raw eggs (early on so they have time to cook)

1 cup cubed cheese

2 tablespoons chicken broth granuals

dash of garlic

dash of onion salt

Makes a big kettle full

Hi Molly

Thanks for the recipe. I am 11 days post-op. Am I the only one who's hungry?? I have a son living at home and my husband. It's hard to sit here and smell garlic bread

I am 5 days post op, but before I went on pre-op fast, I tried a great recipe for cream of crab Soup....not low fat, but low carb and high Protein. If anyone is interested in the recipe give me a shout. It is very easy and extremely filling. It has cream, half and half, milk, butter, sherry, onion, parsley, lump crab meat, and corn starch which I used as a substitute to flour (still carbs, but less)! It is truly yummy.

On another issue, I am having extreme diffficulty in getting in all of my Protein and liquids. I have taken to making one serving of a Protein shake in the blender, but I add some extra Protein powder and some Peanut Butter. I drink this throughout the day and in between drink Water and one serving of chicken broth. Does that sound OK? I do not want my body to go into starvation mode hence the extra powder and Peanut Butter to increase calories and protein.:hungry:

Yes, you can add the Pbutter to shakes. I do it and it taste great. Sometimes I add a banana or some other fruit, Some people even add egg beaters. Have you tried egg drop Soup? That is good also

On the Peanut Butter added to the Protein drink: Try using the reduced fat peanut butter. It tastes exactly the same as regular peanut butter (I promise) but the texture is slightly less oily, almost like it's more dry - if peanut butter can ever be considered dry! lol It saves a lot of fat grams without any change of taste!

I'm not a big fan of low fat, low cal, substitutes, in my opinion they don't taste like the real thing so I'd rather not have them at all. I was pleasantly surprised that the reduced fat peanut butter is an exception to that problem.

On the Protein question, my doc said that 1 or 2 weeks with low protein wouldn't matter much, and not to worry in the first couple of weeks if I make it to the 56-60g mark. And I wasn't getting hardly any for most of my first week post op and only lost 2 pounds! how is that possible? on ablut 300 calories? only 2 pounds. I am still confused.

With too few calories your body thinks it is starving and holds onto body mass, that's why I have tried to get at least 500 calories in by adding things to my 1 Protein shape that I spread over the day. Yesterday I even had a rita's Water ice no fat but calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
