I had bad gas pain. Had my surgery jan 23 and its been 2 weeks and I think I'm still having gas pain. My back hurts and my lower abdomen. It's not that painful now, maybe a 3 out of 10 but the day after surgery it was a 10! I got gas x chewables and they worked ok and the strips that dissolve on your tongue, those didn't help as much. Milk of magnesia helped some too. Walking didn't really help me. I don't remember how much gas x cost. Like $5 I think but I got it from Walmart

I am having surgery Friday so I want to be prepared to a t

Oh I believe you the question mark was about gas-x helping with the Co2 that they pump into the abdominal cavity.

I don't see the correlation unless the gas seeps into the stomach.

Then again what do I know, I'm new to all this. :D

The gas in your body gets absorbed. Honestly, ive done this twice now, walking and moving alleviates the pain. You'll burp and fart. It feels so good :)

Laying down in the bed traps the gas. This is why they get you up - even sitting on the bed or standing helped move the big bubble under my ribs. Gas X only helps break up the stuff in your digestive track so you burp and fart easier, so it is more of a support drug than silver bullet solution.

I think the pain meds the doc gave me helped better. But I bought target brand gas x at target n cost about 5bucks. I was s more uncomfortable but the pain for me wasn't bad. The worst for me was the nauseated feeling I had so make sure your doc provides it cause mine didn't. Good luck to you

You are correct....they inflate the body cavity to easier acess the areas for surgery.....they try to extracrt as much of this as possible when they sew you up.....it does travel up under the rib cage and accumulates in the left shoulder area.......it can be very painful....standing orders in hospitals is to get the patient up and walking asap...this is the ONLY thing that will/can help....

Things like Gas-x stay WITHIN the digestive system...have nothing to do with the "Gas" people refer to from sugery outside the digestive system in the body cavity.......the 2 CANNOT combine, if they did then you have real some SERIOUS PROBLEMS!!!!

I was banded 2 days Ago. I recommend sleeping in a comfy chair mostly upright, with additional pillow upright on your back. Walk every hour for 15 minutes, I used a pillow on my belly for support, work your way up to 30minutes, slow pace. Take the pain meds! And have faith day 2 is the worst! Heating pad helps with the shoulder gas pain. Oh, and Popsicles! Good

Luck, the best lies ahead!

Remember, there is a gas and there there is a gas. Yes, the CO2 causes the initial pain, but for what ever reason the surgery turns you into one mean flatulist.

One thing that works is a little potion of apple juice hawaiin punch and tea bags. Place half a cup of apple juice and half a cup of hawaiin punch in the microwave together. Heat for about a minute or so depending on how hot you like it then place a tea bag in it and let it steep. Sip away and it should work better then any gas ex could. Cheaper then gas x strips for sure.

As others said, no meds will help the gas from the surgery however for the other gas that is a little more embarrassing *wink* I use a combo of Gas X and this horrible tasting stuff called Di Gel anti gas and antacid that works pretty good but I'd rather drink a whole glass of the barium swallow they give you after the surgery to check how things are flowing than the 2 tsp. dose of the Di Gel but it does help relieve symptoms. You can pick them up at your local CVS/Walgreens/Walmart for around 5 bucks.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
