Anyone out there? Still figuring it out 3 yrs post surgery..

Recommended Posts

It's been three years since my surgery! I've lost 170lbs.

It's amazing, I don't regret it one bit!

But i am struggling with keep food down. And my band is completely loose.

I'll take two bites or even drink a smoothie and not be able to keep it down. I haven't told my surgeon or Drs about it. Just wondered if anyone else had the same problem.

Also wondered if anyone else feels like they are forever figuring this thing out.

Thanks

Kristy

Congratulations on your loss, but I have to wonder why you haven't talked to your Dr.s. Personally, they would have been my first call.

Kristy,

Sorry you are going through this however if your band is completely empty then you should really contact your doctor right away. This may not even be band related. A wide open band and not able to drink a smoothie is very concerning.

I can bet the next several posts after mine are going to be folks telling you to call your Doctor asap.

Time to call a doctor. This doesn't sound normal if you have been banded for so long.

You really should call your doctor about this. Sometimes we can get tight even with no fill...I am. I have a GI motility disorder that affects my entire digestive tract, causing spasms which narrow the stoma. It seems to be a late post op side effect that is happening to a few people I know. Call your doctor today please. Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone. I haven't told my dr because for some reason I feel like it's an aspect of "failure".

But knowing you all understand I appreciate your rjoughts

Seriously, Kristy 170lbs is far from failure and anyone to say so must be on crack. Where your health and well being is concerned screw what they think anyway. You need to get some answers.

In my opinion (and you know what they say about opinions) there two kinds of band failures.

1. Band failed as in defective or the body rejected it

2. Person with the band never worked with it properly either because they didn't want to put the work into it or they were not educated by their Surgical team to use it properly.

You are no failure by any means. Please get checked out and put your mind at ease.

I'm very new to all of this, but I say, please get in to see your doctor.

Ditto on the Doctor thing - but to answer your second question - YES, I still feel like I am figuring it out years later. No two days seem the same! :)

I have to chime in and agree with the others, please call your doctor ASAP. You are far from from a failure, in fact you're obviously been a huge success with your band. But you are having potentially serious symptoms and every day you wait you are putting your health more at risk.

Give your doc a call and get checked out. Best wishes.

I hope you are doing well. Can I ask what the scar tissue was from? Are they able to replace the band? Do you feel that you need it back? Sorry for so many questions. I am 4 1/2 years out and have had some problems myself.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
