Mine would be covered, but I will call and see what they require. Anything else I have to do? I have been thinking about this and talking and researching this for 2 yrs. My husband and I have been wanting and trying for a baby for 5 yrs and have not been able to. We have 1 daughter and she wants a brother or sister so bad. I found out in 07 that I have diabetes and in 12 found out about my thyroid. 3 yrs ago I was in a car accident and have had 3 neck surgeries and now I am disabled and cant do very much. So the pounds keep packing on. Sense I was 18 I have been bigger and now at 32 its time for some changes big ones. Good luck with your recovery!

Thanks. Things are going well so far (about 15 pounds down since pre op diet). I just started by attending a seminar, calling my insurance company, and contacting the surgeon. I was clueless, but the surgeons office was great in guiding me. They told me exactly what to do and when. They even made appointments for me (and there were a bunch)! I had to see a phsycologist once, a pulmonologist and do a sleep study (ended up having severe sleep apnea), lots of blood work, cardiologist for stress test and EKG, and of course a nutritionist each month. I tell everyone if it ends in "ist" I have been there....lol! It seems like a bunch, but it went by quick and was worth it. I also read a lot about the surgery. I was 100% sure this is what I wanted (until pre op jitters). Of course I questioned it right before and right after surgery, but that passed. I wish you the best of luck!! :-)

These "boards" are very helpful.. The people who have went before us are very smart and knowledgeable. Good luck.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
