I'm a newbie to forum but joined months ago - "about me"

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I'm a newbie...

I actually joined months ago but today is the first time I have had a good look around... Here's a little "about me"...

I suffer from severe PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and Insulin Resistance. I gained 42kg (92lb) before they knew what was happening. Due to late diagnosis I am now also Type 2 diabetic. When I had an appt with my Endocrinologist she suggested a band and i nearly died. I had not ovulated in 5yrs and she thought this would help. After trying diets and failing many times like everyone else I didnt know what to do. The day my husband said he was scared he would lose me to a weight related illness that was enough to push me over the edge.

I did a bit of research, saw a few doctors and thought it was worth trying. I would be lying if i wasnt hoping it would help be an easier way to lose weight which in some respects it has been a little bit considering working my butt off before considering a band i never lost a kg!

22nd May 2012 I was banded.

I havent lost as much as others and i have lost my mojo.

A few weeks ago I got a phone call to find out I have started ovulating again for the first time in 6yrs!!! Ive lost 17kgs with my band (37lb) and feel a lot better. The fact that i may actually be able to have a baby thanks to my band = amazing!

So after reading a lot of the forums i have now decided to hit the ground running. Take control of my band and my weight loss and stop trying to find excuses. My goal is to lose at least another 17kgs (37lb) then start trying to have a baby.

Why did i have WLS? To live a happy, healthy life with my husband & hopefully one day our children...

Welcome! I think you have come to the right place for support. With commitment and now the motivation of the possibility of a baby, you've got this! I'm just new to the lapband, with surgery one week away. But I'm in awe of all the people on here who are leading the way for us. Have you met with your lapband doctor yet to renew your commitment? Get as many people on your support team as possible, and you can do it.

Cindy

I also have PCOS and have not ovulated in 10 years except for meds and by chance I ovulated 3 times in 2012 on my own. I am going to banded the last week of February. I have one child that I conceived with fertility treatments, but I have been unable to have more children. I have also lost 4 babies. I am hoping that the band will help me get healthy that when God does bless me with another baby, I will have a healthier pregnancy this time around. Wishing you the best!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
