I'm really considering getting banded, I'm attending a seminar on the 16th. I have to say its been very helpfull reading everyone's post &thank you all for that.

I've been overweight my entire life, I was in a really bad car accident last jan. I broke both legs, it was very hard on me last year, but by the grace of God I made it. So now I've been gaining more weight than ever, I can walk not for long & I know loosing weight would benefit me in a lot of ways. On the other hand my husband was in a car accident 5 years ago & needs to wear prosthetics, so needles to say I take care of the household. So my first question is how long has it taken everyone to get back into their normal routine? & will I need someone to take care of me for a few weeks? Just wanted to say hello & introduce my self.

Thank you! :)

Hi Molly,

Sorry about your situation! I went back to work in 7 days. The first few days suck and I barely moved other than to walk around as recommended by my surgeon.

I am 8 weeks out and down 48 pounds and its the best decision I have ever made! No regrets here!

Good luck with your journey. If you have the opportunity to have lapband, I highly suggest you get it.

;)

I was up and around after a few days and back to work after a few weeks. It was the liquids that was a bigger pain for the weeks following the surgery.

I was banded on friday afternoon and back to work tuesday. My job is a desk job but i deal with the public and walk around often (work in an apt complex office)

The day of and two days after i had to have someone help me out of bed. But other than that i was pretty self sufficient

I hope this helps u!

I took a week off after surgery. The first couple days are the worst because of gas pain. A little tip...the more you move, the better you feel. It will be tough but if you want it, you can do it! Good luck, I hope you make the decision that's right for you. :)

Than you! I've been hearing a lot about gas pain is that after surgery, or throughout the weight loss?

I had surgery on Tues. Jan. 22nd. first 4 days were rough but I could have went back to work on Friday if I had a job. today 2 wks out if I didn't have these incisions I would not know I had surgery. All is well.

Congratulations on making the decision to get healthy! I had surgery and was back PT on the following Tuesday. FT on Thursday. I couldn't lift more than 10 lbs for the first two weeks per dr instruction and it was just about then I started feeling normal.

For me the gas was just the first week or so.... Duri g surgery your abdomen is pumped up with gas and it takes a while for it to get out of your body. That was the only discomfort I had. I didn't have any other pain.

I was retired by the time I had my surgery, so can't say about going back to work. But, I was pretty good by the weekend, I had surgery on Friday and was up for church on Sunday morning, singing in the choir! My surgeon had his done in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz, and claims it was on Friday and he was doing surgery back here in Florida by Monday morning!

I had my surgery on Jan 18th and I was up and walking right after surgery ( like everyone else). I also walked a mile round trip to a casino the next day. I rested mostly, but in the week after surgery I still was able to care for and mostly keep up with my four year old. A good idea might be to get a friend to come stay with you for a few days after surgery to help care for your husband and home. I could have used a little extra help for the week after, but it was manageable.

The only pain I had was the left shoulder pain (from the gas)... it last for 3 days. I used the "Magic Bags" you put in the microwave. They REALY helped. I was fully recovered in a week.

Having the surgery was the best thing I every did. I started with a 54" waist... now 32".

I only remember being down the first day then after that I was out walking around.

I was walking around as soon as they unhooked the oxygen monitor and IV. When I got home I was up and walking around every two hours. The next day I was driving and out shopping for six hours the day after that. I just had to be very careful the first couple of days bending over and getting up when I was laying down because that strains your abs. I think it all depends on your pain tolerance level. I also had no one at home. I sent mom home because I didn't want anyone fussing so if I needed something I had to do it myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
