Haven't had steak since being banded, do you eat it?

Recommended Posts

Boy am I ever craving a steak but I just can't bear the thought of chewing a piece of red meat to death. Hamburger meat gags me cause I don't want to run into a gristle, ew, and well, all I've eaten so far is fish and chicken but oh how I would love something different for a change. Do you guys eat steak?

After my second fill, I had trouble with meat going down and getting stuck easily....

Spoke with my Dr., and was told this is the most common food item for this to happen....

ALL my Dr,'s have been trying to get me to cut back on red meat simply for health issues for years....so, with the trouble it was giving me with the band I figured this was a s good as time as any to just quit....

So I have not eaten Red Meat in about 20 months....I'm not fanatical about it, I don't get upset if it's in Chili, etc, you just won't see me ordering a fillet or pork chop ever again....and I can tell the difference health wise....and my blood work also shows....

As far as food cravings....I don't get those anymore since hitting the Green Zone.......simply have no interest in food and feel satisfied most, if not all the time....

I can eat steak but I rarely do. I do eat hamburger but mostly mixed with salsa or brown rice. I made up some stuffed peppers that each have about 2 ozs of very lean humburger in them so I get that red meat flavor but it's close to a slider food since it's got a little parmesan and marinara sauce mixed with it.

Skirt steak. I cut tiny and chew chew chew. I don't eat it often tho. Some time the texture isn't worth it for me.

I are done today. The only thing is I can't eat as much steak as I could of ground near or even chicken breast.

I can eat steak but I have to chew the heck out of it. Honestly it exhausts me and sometimes it's just not worth the effort. If you are craving it, have a tender cut, cut small and chew it up well.

After having many different steaks, a filet is the most tender and easiest to chew. I had one last night. Last night I cut it into small pieces and stir fried it with Chinese veggies and Chinese sauce over rice and it was super.

I have eaten steak but, by the time you chew it to death, it taste like I have been chewing on card board. I have had the same problem with pork chops too! meat just does not hold the appeal for me that it used to. I can handle chicken, hamburger and any kind of fish or seafood. My taste in food has definitely changed!

I have trouble with pork, too. Try the filet. I have eaten filets about 4-6 times with no trouble. I find it easier than chicken. I do very well with meatballs/burgers. I get a fill Friday so I will be eating meatballs the beginning of the week. I usually make sweet and sour ones.

I have had no problem with steak, and since I dont eat much I actually go for the better cuts of steak fillet mingon is super easy to chew and to eat. Never had a stuck episode with it at all. Its usually one of the smallest cuts at roughly 6 oz but I also share my food with a 2 year old who loves steak.

Not very often,... And I love it but usually it's too tough no matter how much I chew..... unless it's a very very high end steak like a filet and even then the pieces must be tiny and I have to chew the heck out of it.

Thanks everyone for your input. I may try a filet soon to see how I do since I'm craving it. Before the band I would bake them like a roast and they were delish so I may do that instead of grilling. I am a great seafood eater and love it to death but I'm getting tired of it 7 1/2 mos out and tonight of all nights and I know what you're going to say so say it, I warmed up some left over chicken in the toaster oven and it was too dry and I ate it anyway, ended up getting stuck so PB'd most of it up to say the least. I usually can eat chicken but didn't happen tonight. So mushies for me tomorrow. Had some hot chocolate earlier to ease my soreness. Dang, I am going to the grocery tomorrow afternoon and get me a filet, lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
