How can a .01 cc actually make a difference ??

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering when I read these posts that some of you guys get .2 cc or .3 cc fill or unfill it makes a huge difference. My Dr does not fill like this he only does a full 1cc or 2cc at a time. I'm a nurse and when I look at .1cc its such a small amt so I'm just curious how that makes a difference in the band? By no means am I saying this in a negative way I'm just wondering if I shld suggest maybe a half cc next time I need a fill.

It can make a huge difference. I've had .1cc taken out and it was the difference between too tight and the Green Zone. I've had as little as .1cc added, too.

When you're close to that perfect level of Fluid in your band, even an amount as small as .1cc can make all the difference in the world.

And some of us are sensitive too. My Dr. Put 3cc in during surgery, and with my allergy issues I couldn't eat 2 weeks out and had to have some taken out! They tried doing a 1cc fill once, and it was just too much too fast! I can only tolerate 0.25cc at a time, and even had to have half of THAT taken out once!

I had 4.2 in my band in day if surgery, my first fill was .8 at three weeks and after that anywhere from .2 to . 5 every two weeks till I got to greenzone and each of those little fills made a difference for me especially as I approached greenzone. I remember getting just .2 in and had my first stuck episode.

Some are more sensitive to the smaller fills from what I've read on the forums and some are fine with bigger amounts.

It was a pain going in every two weeks but we snuck up to greenzone slowly and didn't blow right past into the redzone. No unfills for me to date and I think I'm going to be fine for a while with a total of 8cc in my 14cc

band.

I've got one of the antique 4cc bands.....and ANYTHING over a few tenths at a time are HUGE in affects.

Take a look at a graphic showing the diameter of a 4cc band....when you add "1cc' at first it ain't all that much....when there's "3cc" in there already, the volume of the constricted area is considerably more.

I've done the 1.5 fine/1.6 ok/1.7 maybe/1.8 too tight?1.9tooDAMN tight/ and back down again routine way too many times. I do very well at 1.5 and 1.7 gives me a TON of esophageal issues that mimic a number of well-known and named "Syndromes". Drop to 1.5 and all is well. Except, well.....it's still too easy to eat too much....but at least I'm not gagging all day.

Once I was determined to believe that "0.1cc" wasn't going to make me tap out. I spent 8 months with dumb-stubborn-guy issues, from feeling like my tie was on too tight all the time, to something stretching my esophagus an extra 6".....

Alas, 1.5/4cc band works pretty nice, while 1.7 really doesn't. 1.6 is sort of 'iffy' and they now have decided I should stay below that point for a while.

So I for one will stand with the ".1cc can make a HUGE difference" club.

For me it made a difference as I'm close to goal I only need a tiny tweak. 1/4cc was too much in October so to unfill me, then add 1/8cc it worked gie me. I can feel the just right restriction or green zone. By February, maybe it will be another 1/8cc. My surgeon said its tough to gage such a small amount but it was successful for me at this time:)

Big difference.

And I would be concerned with a Doctor that has that rigid of standards on 1 or 2 cc's only...it should be individualized to each patient's body and needs.

Definitely ask about smaller or more incremental fills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
