Weight Watchers??

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm frustrated to say that I've only lost 6 pounds since November. Up until now the band really has done all the work for me and I've been losing steadily getting to -50 with very little effort... But now that I'm at reasonable restriction (yes, I could probably be a little tighter, but I'm pretty tight) I decided to rejoin Weight Watchers and see if that helps.

WAKEUP CALL!!!

OMG I had no idea I've been eating this badly!!!!! I had a 50 point day over the weekend with absolutely no effort at all. I'm hoping that having a few weeks of conscious eating will get me back in the groove where I don't have to try as hard again, because I badly don't want to be on Weight Watchers.

What do you long-termers do? Does the band do enough of the work for you where you don't need WW? Or are other people doing diets of one sort or another? How hard to you have to "try" to lose or keep the weight off?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi there !

I have been a lurker for years on LBT But now I decided to join because I know how it is to need the support. I was banded in 09 had rejoined Weight Watchers several times since then but I must say I am deciding now to take a little more seriously especially with the new 360 program that focuses on lifestyle choices and changing your environment etc. and besides Jennifer Hudson is continuing to inspire me:) but I think Weight Watchers is a good way to get a handle on your tracking and we just have to tweak it to fit our life and band needs. It is a proven system that works and I think the key is the group support and the fact that it allows for us to eat normally and eat socially.... I encourage you to pursue whatever you need to do because this is your journey so if group support with a proven program like weight watchers is what you need (myself included) then i say go for it ! I realize that not every doctor agrees with the system but that is where you just work your band needs into the point system and work the plan!!! I am like you as well I can easily eat over 50 points in the day and didn't think that I had eaten a lot so weight watchers is a great wake up tool:) good luck

I once belonged to weight watchers and left only because I was the only guy and got tired of watching Oprah videos

But I think it's good to lean on WW as a nutrition tool. It's a great reminder that we sometimes don't eat as healthy as we should. I know each visit with my nut is about $50 so WW is a bargain. Just keep in mind that for the tool to work properly we should eat our Protein first. And I know back when I used to go to WW, processed foods weren't crossed off the list as much as they are now. Processed flour, sugar & meats should be avoided in favor of fresh fruit, veggies and meats. imo

I say do whatever works for you. Some do low carb, some count calories, and if Weight Watchers works for you then do it. We're all following some sort of "diet" regardless of what we call it. We're all making changes to our eating routine to lose weight.

I personally count calories, stick to a cup or less of food per meal, and am careful to always get in at least 60g of Protein daily. It is work. The band significantly reduces hunger and increases satiety but I could easily over-eat if I really wanted to. That's why I track calories, it holds me accountable and keeps from eating too much.

I think it's always going to be some degree of work, the difference is in time that "work" becomes second nature so it doesn't feel like work as much anymore.

For the first 3 years I didn't have to try, it all seemed to just happen. Now however things have changed and I am having to make a conscious effort to try and maintain.

I agree with Mis. I don't like a plan like ww for ME just because there are too many free options. I like the guidelines my doctor gave me but we are all different and everyone has to find their own path. Best of luck to everyone!

You know, I often ponder joining a group and - get this - I still feel like I'd be a "cheater". I won't even join in the company weight loss contest because I feel like I have an advantage.

I am judging myself before anyone even gets a chance to...I don't get it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
