Hi,

I'm new to postings.

I've been banded about 18 months. I started off @272lbs and now about 230 lbs. I have gained about

10 lbs since my last office visit before Thanksgiving. I currently throw-up if I eat anything like meat or Bagels

and I seem now to gravitate toward softer foods. My exercise has been down lately due to high workload. I don't know

if I should go back in to get adjusted tighter and need I some feedback.

Thanks

Mark

It sounds like you are far too tight. :( You should be able to eat 4 oz of meat and 6 oz of vegetables without any problem, and then not get hungry for another 4 hrs or longer. I was too tight for a year and because of that I kept eating soft foods or Soup. Because of being too tight, I got an enlarged esophagus which made them take the liquid out for awhile to recover.

I see posts like yours every week. If you can eat soft foods and don't throw up, you should also be able to eat solids too. I say this because, if you eat slowly, eat very small and chew very much, the food becomes a soft food by the time it reaches your pouch. It's mush and not much different than Soup, or oatmeal.

If you can make a big effort to eat this way, see if it might solve the problem. A visit with your doc and nut is the first or next step. A small unfill might be necessary but it's difficult to wrap my mind around your band getting tighter all on it's own?

A slip is always a possibility and your doc will know? But, before you go in, try the small eats, big chews and slow down?

For what it's worth, I just joined Weight Watchers (haven't lost much since November) and it was a huge wakeup call. I had no idea how badly I've been eating. I'm hoping that by adjusting the things I reach for, that will make all the difference. I hate the idea of being ON weight watchers, but I'm using this as a food education period.

One more thing. Very few of us can eat a bagel without some difficulty. Very very small bites with breads, especially soft doughy bagel type breads. Dry meats are always an issue unless, you take very small bites.

Adding more Fluid to your band doesn't seem like a logical step to me but that's for your doc to decide?

Ok, this is my 2 cents worth, take it for what you will...

Sounds to me like you are eating mostly sliders, which tend not to keep you full the 4-5 hours it should. So you are likely eating more calories than you should. Calories are calories not matter the form.

The weight gain may have caused your band to get tighter, making it more difficult to eat solids. Which would mean you need a slight unfill, even a cc could make a difference.

Questions to ask yourself- Are you drinking enough Water? Are you taking small bites and chewing well when you attempt to eat solids? Are you making good choices with the food you are putting in your body - good carbs, healthy Proteins, Fiber?

A trip to see both the doctor and nutritionist maybe all you need to get yourself back on track.

You can do it, just have faith. You haven't failed until you give up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
