One week post op and sooo tired

Recommended Posts

Ok tomorrow is one week. I am soo tired. Please tell me that when I move to mushies I will get more energy. I have no idea how much I've lost or even if I've lost (my scale still reads error). If I could see that maybe this exhaustion wouldn't seem so bad. I don't feel hungry, but have serious head hunger. I just keep telling myself no, don't mess up the surgery. I am only getting around 300 calories a day! Drinking mainly Water with some juice, broth and some milk mixed in.

Hi Molly-

It will get better. I was exhausted for the first 2 weeks and then really tired for about 3 more weeks after that. I think it was the food (or lack of) combined with recovering from surgery.

Hang in there and just rest as much as you can.

Hi Molly, I don't think it is lack of food, but the trama of surgery you just went through. I was absolutely whiped out for about a week and a half, and then my energy started to come back.

Don't worry, this is absolutely normal. Congrats on your band!

Sounds like I felt too. Be sure to keep increasing your Protein intake, ideally you should be getting a minimum of 60 grams of Protein per day. That will really help your energy level. As Vines said, your body has been traumatized. Be patient, keep well-hydrated and get lots of rest. Each day will get better. :)

Welcome to Bandland!!

300 calories is not enough. You need a minimum of 60 grams of Protein a day to heal (that alone is 540 calories). If you can't get the required amount of protein from the shakes, call your MD or dietician and see if they will advance your diet or allow some substitutions.

If you are still on Clear Liquids, and cannot have the shakes/smoothies for your Protein, try zero carb isopure....it is available in bottles like the Sobe drinks, I got mine at GNC. Thay have 40 g. of protein per bottle. It is a little tart for me, so I added splenda!! Is best very cold, IMO, so I plan to use a small glass with lots of ice, and work on getting the bottle drank each day. I was just taste testing all of it prior to my surgery next week. But it is a good protein option for the first week or so when you are very limited on options. Hope you feel much better really soon!

Hi Molly,

I was just banded on April 7th and was really tired up until the 1 week mark and then when I woke up on the 8th morning I couldn't believe how good I felt. I finally felt like "me" again. Hang in there it is almost over.

I would call the doctors to see about increasing your caloric in take..that may help you too.

PS: Maybe you should buy a new scale if yours say error or check the weight limit some scales only go up to a certain weight :)

Good Luck!

Hi Molly,

I haven't been banded yet....but I can tell you that I had an outpatient surgery due to some female problems last year and it took me a good two weeks just to bounce back from that. I found myself taking frequent naps and just not having much energy. I think that some of us just might not bounce back from any type of surgery as quickly as others.

I hope you get your energy back and get to feeling better soon.

Thanks everyone

I made a cream Soup with lots of Protein in it. It's the thickest thing I've had so far and made me a little naseous but that went away and I feel better for having eaten something. Doctor said I could move on to full liquids, but I've been afraid too. I have a fear of throwing up, especially when I'm still sore from surgery. I'm just a big baby. Now to get past the fear that I haven't lost any weight this week, find out tomorrow :D

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
