I am 62 and have until yet to find someone my age who has been banded. Anyone out there? I am just beginning this journey, getting all my ducks in a row, waiting on insurance, dieting on my own, trying to move around more, etc. My doctor is gung-ho about this and I see my surgeon for the first time this next week. Anyone who could offer a little encouragement would be appreciated. I have been overweight most of my life and two weeks ago, I weighed 357. My cholesterol is fine, BP a little on the high side but controlled with meds. I lost my husband 3 years ago and life has really been lonesome and, naturally, somewhat depressing.Actually, jusst knowing that there are many folks out there with similar or worse problems is helpful. Thank ya'll in advance for helping each other.

Welcome Lalou. I'm so very sorry you lost your husband :(

I'm only 39, however my neighbor across the street is your age. She was banded about 4 months ago and is doing really well. I see her outside walking all the time while out on my walks.

You're not alone :)

Hi I am 66 and I was banded on 1/15/13.. I had been overweight for about 30 years .. I started having some serious health issues.. my blood sugar was eratic. blood pressure too high and cholesterol and triglycerides too high.. I got to the point that I hurt all the time, feet, legs and back.. couldn't hardly walk anywhere.. I decided I did not want to live the rest of my life this way.. I am happy so far, I have lost 23 lbs and I feel better every day.. today I walked a mile.. doesn;t sound like much for me it was a triumph.. You are not alone and I believe this decision will be the best thing you can do.. join a support group in your area if you have one.. Meeting other people and getting involved will help you with your loneliness and keep you motivated.. Take Care

66 and getting banded on 2 19 13. I think there is a form for us who remember, or would like to remember the 60's. I have been heavy most of my life. Have done very diet known to man or woman kind and finally this is going to be something. In fact today I was doing my hospital pre op check in and the lady who checked me in said she would probably run into at the surgeon's office in about half hour as she had an appointment for a fill. She talked for awhile about her journey and wished me well. Good luck.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
