Lapband and Taxes

Recommended Posts

Now that just about everyone has done there 2005 income taxes, we were wondering how well you did in deducting these expenses off your income taxes after your adjusted gross income of 7.5%? :clap2: <O:p</O:p

Did anyone use a combination of medical flex spending account and then deducted the rest off your income taxes?<O:p</O:p

Did you receive a larger refund than you expect because of the expense and was this able to help in paying off the loan you may have had to have surgery?

I do not see why you could not them off your taxes. A lot of people are starting to go to forgien places because surgery is much cheaper there than in the US.

Based on current tax law they can be deducted as long as the surgery is medically necessary. It doesn't matter whether you had the surgery in the US or went elsewhere for it.

I deducted mine along with all other medical expenses last year that weren't already covered by my husband's reimburesment account plan (medical savings account.)

great thanks!

I read all the info about the deduction when doing my taxes in Feb, no where did I see that it addressed my questions.

That was a deciding factor to refi our house; self pay and use the extra tax benefits of the refi and the surgery

I self paid and used had my surgery in mexico. I filed this and other related expenses on my taxes for this year and it helped greatly. I am sure we received more back because of this expense. To bad I can't afford something else this year!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
