Hello everyone,

I am new to the site. I just had my first appt and was told it will be about 7 months before they schedule a date. How long did some you have to wait?

Welcome! This is a great place to be.

I had to do a 6 month weight loss plan, with monthly PCP visits.

Three support group meetings.

Two nutritionist meetings.

Blood work.

sleep study.

Psychological evaluation.

I recommend really taking the pre-surgery time seriously. Practice the techniques - talk and read as much as you can - soul search....all of it. Embrace the time before your surgery - it is part of the journey.

Good Luck to you!

I started with my first seminar last May.... and in 24 days  ... is my last nutrition appointment and my phsyc eval and then all my paperwork will be submitted. So 7 months seems about right. Just practice skills and research research research!

Your insurance will determine how long it takes to have surgery. Some make you jump through months of hoops before you're eligible. Most docs would go to surgery in a matter of a month if not for insurance. In some ways it's a good thing. It gives you time to research docs, research forums, support groups before you take the plunge.

I see many forum members who come here and don't have a clue how the band works, what their responsibilities are or what their support group should be doing for them.

1 month. I was self-pay, so the only requirement by my Dr was the psych eval and 2 week pre-op diet.

took one year, so 7 months does not seem to long it will go by quickly. Good luck on your journey. Hugs

5 weeks from consult to surgery. This was a good thing for me, because if I had more time, I probably would have backed out. I'm so glad I had the surgery. Good luck with your journey :)

I was required to do six months of appts before I could have surgery. Six nutrition appts, a psych eval and a preop. My insurance required this. For me I was glad I did this; I gave myself the time to try to lose on my own, and as usual, I could not. Lost 30 lbs and then stalled and gained 15 back. It really helped me resize I needed the help.

My insurance required 6 months but it ended up being almost 10 months. Glad it took as long as it did so I could be sure this was going to be right for me. I am not a very patient person, but it went by quicker than I thought it would. Good luck to you!!

Welcome Christi! Congratulations on starting on this journey. It's a big decision! My insurance is covering my surgery and I will be about 7 weeks from consult to surgery. My first consult with surgeon was on 1/11 and my surgery is scheduled for 3/5. I am having the psych and nutrition appointments this Tuesday. Then I have pre-op with surgeon and hospital on 2/15. I am looking forward to getting through the appointments on Tuesday! I am excited and nervous about the surgery, but I know it is what is best for me!

Took me three months of hoop jumping and then another month to get scheduled for surgery. Four months total. It all went by fast enough for me. Hope it does for you also. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
