I just got the results of my upper GI study and it showed a "small to moderate" hiatus hernia (I"m sure I spelled it wrong, lol). What I'm wondering is did anyone else discover during preop testing and how was it handled? Did the surgeon just correct it during the lap band procedure or does it need to be corrected prior to the surgery? I will be sure to ask my surgeon when I have my next meeting with her, but I was just curious what experiences other people have had.

For small to moderate, I would expect that the surgeon will correct during the lap band procedure. Most seem to. Good luck!

I had my hernia repaired when I had the lap-band. My surgeon said it was a great time to get it done. I know a lot of people that have had it done at the same time with no problems! Good luck!

Hi,

I had mine repaired during the Lap Band and also my stomach was in the wrong place and that also was placed properly. Near my breast bone I had a cyst removed, too. Why not get everything fixed at once. Before the band I had to take 6 pills a day to eat because of the hernia and stomach issue and now take nothing. Don't worry about it.

Good luck.

I've had a hiatal hernia for years prior to LBS and it was fixed at time of surgery.

Same here, mine was fixed during lapband surgery and I had no clue I had one. I was having symptoms of reflux before surgery, but not bad enough to take anything, and now no symptoms. Nice added benefit :)
