Did I make a mistake?

Recommended Posts

I got banded on 1-25-13. 6 days ago and I'm beginning to wonder if I made a mistake. It seems like there was this huge explosive lead-up, up to the surgery with the Dr, nurses and everyone else involved and a big blow off now that the surgery is done. I was sent home with a piece of paper telling me what and when to eat, never saw my surgeon after surgery and the only conversation my husband had with him was "surgery went well. She had a hernia. I took it out". Today is the best I've felt. I am, however, having problems burping and passing gas. Called the weight loss center and someone who could hardly speak English answered and chalked it up to me being nauseous. Yea....I'm not nauseous. But I said thank you and hung up. This is a horrible experience. I've had 4 surgeries this past year. Recovered from all of them with minimal pain meds. I'm struggling with lapband. I feel like I was duped as to how id feel post surgery. And now I'm beginning to wonder what happens if I lose my insurance? Self pay? Yea right. I read a story of a woman stuck with her lapband because her Dr moved and no other surgeon would touch her. What if something bad happens and I no longer have insurance? Idk. I'm considering having it removed if this is what I can expect in the future. I'm miserable.

Sounds like you need to find a better support team or even a new Dr. You should be able to contact the office of your Dr. with any questions. Maybe some other Dr. in your area will be able to provide you the support you should have. Good Luck

Sorry to hear this - it sounds frustrating.

Please post the name of the doctor along with the clinic. Not only will it be helpful for others considering lapband but it might cause feedback that your provider can see and will take to heart.

You are healing from a major surgery, Lapband with hernia repair, of course you're going to feel crappy for a short while.

I too, had LB and hernia rspair, didn't see my Dr after surgery b/c they have surgeries back to back. I was given my instructions on the way home and they were discussed at different meetings.

Almost everyone who has had this surgery has gone through the WTH did I do to myself phase, but it only last a short while.

Its way to soon to be talking about getting it removed. Give it time, follow the Drs orders. The more you walk the more gas you get out of your system and that helps a lot. Sip Water all day long.

Do you have a follow up appt 7-10 days out?

Take a deep breath and try to relax, being stressed out will not help.

I love my band and think its the best thing I'vs ever done for myself.

But right after surgery it was WTH,lol

Best Wishes

It's never too late to educate yourself on the band. I understand you're frustrated, but you already have the band. Why not learn to use it? You feel lousy now but you won't for much longer. It seems the logical thing to do is to make it at least worth the cost and pain of the surgery by giving the band, and yourself, a fighting chance.

Feel better soon.

Alot of us think about the "what if's" after lap band surgery. It took me two weeks to feel better. The gas was hell from both ends. I do have a good support team with my Dr.s. My husband had lapband 4 years ago and my Dr. has agreed to see him and do his fills. Good luck and hang in there it gets easier.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
