@B52. What is the recipe for the Custom smoothie?

Thanks for the help

In a blender....I start with 100% whey...25gm, then I add "Pro-Stat 64" a sugar free pure liquid Protein, 30ml (shot glass) for 15gm.....

Mixed with 8oz Water or skim milk if you prefer, add your favorite fresh fruit, Peanut Butter, banana, just about anything you can imagine...even coffee....summertime add a ice cube...can also add yogurt or ice cream....and also non thickening Fiber powder.....always below 300 calories total......no solid Breakfast can match it....and I feel, the advantages all day, can tell when I miss one...

I've been doing this for some time...and it was not because of the band...it was recommended by my cardiologist to name just one...

When I got banded, it became a daily practice since post-op....

Your body can only absorb so much Protein at one sitting do drinking a large amount at once doesn't help you out that much. Much to my dismay, I've been doing a little research on the subject. It takes protein in liquid form, like a shake, an hour and a half to pass through your digestive tract. And your body will absorb about 15g an hour. Everything not absorbed is excreted. Hope that helps!

How long does it take a solid form of Protein (like meat) to pass though and therefore how much can you absorb?

Thanks

Careful not to drink too much of your Proteins. The band requires solid foods to stay satisfied.

I'm not sure Tara. I think the study was just done on liquid Protein. In a study of 19-35 yr old men with a bmi of 20-22 they absorbed 15g of Protein in one sitting. Everyone is different but that's something to compare it to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
